  • Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that when I read the manual upon Pogo's arrival it mentioned something about the computer functions such as average fuel consumption etc resetting after a certain amount of kms. I'm quite sure I recall thinking how pathetic that was. Maybe they're just making an excuse for a known fault?

Meanwhile, has anybody ever had their stereo make an alarmingly loud farting sound (even if the volume isn't that high) and turn off, with no apparent cause? I've had it happen a few times (one nearly caused an accident, it startled me so much) and suspected it may be down to the iPod interface (genuine). Just don't think it something I can easily report as a fault when I have no idea what causes it.

    Cheers!

    • Regarding to radiator leaking problem, seem like it a design fault as the lower outlet piping have to support a fair bit movement from lower radiator hose itself. That unsupport hose causing flex on the lhs end tank of the radiator which all made out of plastic, so some thing gotta give... Solution, new radiator which is dirt cheap from vw, & custom made extra support for the hose. lol

Nope this is no fault. Amy the car has two counters, one resets after 2 hours of no ignition the other resets after maximum's like km 9999. I normally reset it for each tank or sometimes leave it when I want to get a long term fuel usage, like after I chipped it to see what change it made.

          Hows your car going?

Have you upgraded your speakers and/or changed the speaker wire? had it happened to one of my previous car and a mate's car, in both ocasions, the wires were ran too tight (a little too short), so when the door was opened, it pulls the wire, that the loud ring happens, and something just happens whilst driving.

            • Hoyhoy.

PROBLEM..Interior fan only operating on speed No4.

              REMEDY.
The usual reason is a resistor, pull the glove box out to gain access & then have small hands.
Don't pull all dash apart like me did, the resistor from VW = $77.00.
Told by VW spares man that it was quiet common as it is put in there to keep cool & gets all the condensation from the air conditioning.

Problem: Knocking type noise from both front wheels when I go over sharp bumps in the road. Has been happening for some time now but is progressively getting louder. It sounds like the front suspension set up is going to fall out. I'm out of warranty so looks like any dealer work is going to come out of my back pocket.

Any ideas before I have the 60K service done?

Search for control arm bushes and drop links. Will probably be one or the other (or both). Lots of people have had to replace these (me included) and theres a few threads on it.

or the bearings on the mount at the top of the struts - i though don't have any experience with these. A tyre or suspension shop can sort, or at least advise that for you.

                      All good points.

If you are on stock suspension with over 50k kms, likely the rear control arm bushes. Easy to see for yourself.

The other parts can definitely be effected, but less likely with stock suspension.

The droplinks can be seen pretty easily by turning the wheel full lock, hangs from the shock absorber casing to the end of the sway bar.

bearings dont seem to be as noticeable in a straight line, but can be noisy when turning hard or uneven road when turning

                        Thanks everyone for you help.

I'll have a look at the control arm bushes over the weekend when I have a bit of time.

I did some looking into aftermarket bushes today and found Whiteline have a set for the polo but they say 02-06 model. The clip they have on youtube is an 06 onwards Polo Gti so I've sent them an email querying fitment. Just waiting to hear back from them.

If it turns out to be control arm bushes I'd rather go with something better quality after market than have stock ones fitted again.

Anyone had any experience with the whiteline bushes? There are quite a few of you on here with the Whiteline swaybars, if I go the route of Whiteline bushes I might get the sways too.

After reading about the knocking sounds, replacing the bushes and the engine mount was my 2nd mod. I've got the Seat bushes in mine but the Whitelines will do the same. I suggest you get the engine mount installed as well, made so much of a difference. Helps the Pog put the power to the ground. Including the sway bar, these are a must have IMO.

Problem: not all the time, but a few times when i start the car up, the temperature signal appears on the dash. however the temperature metre doesnt
                            exceed or drop below 90.

Problem: knocking from front end for last couple of thousand kms when at low speed, 1st, 2nd gear.
Resolve: local VW dealership took a look, identified the strut top mounts and bearings had worn. Ordered the parts, few weeks later all fixed under warranty, no questions or complaints. The front end now feels much tighter, wheel alignment leaves room for improvement but have only driven 5kms down the highway so far so may have to ask that that be sorted.

I don't want to have to pay for it if they wear out in another 27000, can't be a cheap exercise. Anyone had experience with these things prematurely wearing??

                              • Yeah, I went through a set with the H&R's.

Unfortunately as you have altered the suspension, I would expect the dealership to say its because of your shorter springs.

There was talk of a group buy on an aftermarket version of the topmounts / bearings, not sure what brand they were.

It would not surprise me if you needed to replace them again in another couple of years.

I think the wear is accelerated by the mismatched spring / shocks. Couldn't say why exactly.
