Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

hehe & I think your fan switches from outside air intake to recirculate to prevent your cabin filling with exhaust fumes. The opposite happens when you move the vents onto the windscreen, to prevent the thing from fogging up. Smart stuff eh!

      • ecu flash

Well i've had the polo for about 5 days and got the ecu flashed last night , booya very nice , just one thing....i got a speeding fine in the process. luckily only 71 in a 60 but hey , 1 in 5 years isn't bad.

For those who are thinking of ECU flashing( custom Code ) i would highly recommend it , much better power delivery, great gains for just one mod (for now).
Compared to my prev ride not bad for a little rocket, wrx 00 ej20, tmic, ecu, fp , turbs , 3inch.

Can't wait for the next two upgrades , fmic , exhaust ,

hahaha, hilarious, you gotta be quietly proud of yourself in the process.

There's a few sooby converts here, me being one. welcome.

A word of warning with the sunroof and summer heat.... don't leave the sunroof open at night... you may be greeted with an eight legged friend the next morning on the drive to work.

I swear... the bastard spider took a few years of my life when he scuttled across my dashboard!

Hahahahaha yeah, I'm always afraid of that!

One of my previous cars (Forester GT) had a huge sunroof (moon roof), accidentally left it open overnight, woke up in the morning to find all the seats soaking wet, floor was soaking wet and felt like a pond, had to drill a few holes in the floor, , it was like one of those rainy days where you think its going to flood.

Another forester convert hey. There's surprisingly a few of us here. I had a modded 01 GT.

Ohh.. I had the Forester GT a few years ago.. Loved the sunroof!

Currently at the age of 22, I've been through a few cars.

Now with the Polo, its got everything, just not 4 doors, but don't really need that. AWD hits the pocket hard and isn't really required.

                      • See, I owned a MY05 WRX WRP10 (#54 of the 200 they made), and it just absolutely kills the Polo as a pure sports car.

But by the same token, it would rattle my teeth out in traffic with its ridiculously hard suspension, the exhaust gave you a headache at low rpm due to volume, and the car felt about as refined as a sledgehammer.

Now I'm stuck in traffic everyday in my car I *much* prefer the Polo for my needs, which is a comfortable small car that is fun on the weekends.

But if I once again didn't need to drive to work I'd be looking to head back to Subaru in a MY06-MY07 STi

Agree 100%, would probably go the 05 STi (not that I can afford it), except I refuse to pay the insurance premiums for such vehicles which is why the polo got the nod over the jap rockets. Comfortable run about car and reasonably refined, yet can put a grin on the face when desired.

You'd be surprised on how cheap the premiums are.

I paid under $1k a year full comprehensive with JustCar at 22yo with my WRX, now I'm 25 and I'm paying $425 a year full comp on the Polo.

I'd expect a MY06-07 STi around the $1k mark for me.

                            • Wow! How the hell did you manage that!

I was quoted $2,600 with JustCar at the age of 22 years old for a WRX, had to adjust the premium to get it down to the $2,000 mark, its way too much for insurance, another big factor that played a part when deciding to move to the Polo GTi.

Yes, but you do live in the city with the highest rate of auto theft in Australia.
