Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You'll get used to it. I too use to click it down to give more time, but pretty soon you'll find that three is more than enough.

    • Yeah ill get there eventually, pixl. Getting used to the limited vision behind my right shoulder (as compared to driving the corolla, where the b-pillars weren't as obtrusive), & then being more sure of changing lanes will need to happen first.

Nice one, ssman. When I see a fellow Polo driver with a smile sticking out the two front windows, i'll know it's you.

        • Clever wiper action!

Every drive I do in this thing, I find something else to admire. Like today whilst adjusting my front intermittant wiper setting, I discovered that when you decrease the setting by a notch, the wiper blades don't come on immediately, but when you increase the setting by a notch, they come on immediately, before settling into their intermittant state.

It's common sense that if you were wanting more wiper blade action, that it'd be because your windscreen is getting rained on more heavily, so the logical thing is to program the blades to wipe straight away when you opt for a faster setting.

& also logical that when you feel the rain has eased, & hence don't need as frequent blade action, that when you opt for a slower setting, nothing happens immediately.

          Smart stuff!

Since I got mine I've always wondered about this, now it makes sense! Smart.

            • hehe glad it makes sense now, boogs.

Also, has anyone commented on how the the front headrests can be tilted forward (not sure on the rears)? I didn't discover this until after a few drives. It can make things more comfortable for you, as it brings it closer to your head, making it easier to lean on it.

                • When on intermittent, the blades will also swing faster when the car is driving at speed as well as slow down again when you become stationary.

The headrest tilt is to allow accurate positioning which will greatly reduce the risk of whiplash in an accident.

Am I the only one who as read the manual cover to cover?

I read it within about a week of getting the car - bed time reading for a few nights hehe.

Don't remember it mentioning the headrest tilt though. Could've missed it.

I don't think it mentioned the wiper speeds affected by the speed of the car either..nice pickup.

Seconded. Turn it all the way up and its nice and toasty.

I do wish the side bolsters were heated too though.

                        • I discovered the headrest tilt when I was reversing. I Grabbed it and then went "ok cool, I didn't know they move."

                          • I like that I can have the window down for fresh air without getting blown away. Works well with the heater on to keep you warm...

You mean the drivers side window? You know, I haven't even wound it down all the way yet - now that I have my first car with electric windows (& mirrors for that matter!), I just open either the passenger &/or driver windows by an inch or two to let the cool air quickly fill the small cabin space. Like you said, the heater works well when used in conjunction with open windows or on its own.

Love that I have aircon that actually works, unlike the dodgy system in my previous car.

Also, the feature in the radio that "previews" all your stored stations for about 10 seconds each will come in handy (haven't used it yet). & the auto-storing feature for the FMII memories will also come in handy when travelling up whoop-whoop, as it doesn't touch your FMI stored stations.

                              • I like that when you turn the air recirculate on (liek when youre in the M5 tunnel) after about 5 mins it turns itself off so you dont build up too much CO2 in the cabin.

Also noticed a very nice fragant smell after washing my windscreen in the middle of the freeway, even put the window down to try and 'spot' it.
