Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Probably mentioned already, but I noticed this for the first time yesterday - had the heater on recirculation without the aircon & when I switched the vents from feet to windscreen, the recirculation automatically switched off to prevent the windscreen from fogging up.

      • dont know if you guys know, but if you put the position of the air to your Feet (air vent), there's actually 2 vents in the rear (below the front seats).

          • I love how when you have the wipers on and then you put the car in reverse it swipes the rear wiper twice for you so you can see out the back.

                  • Electronic cruise control is the ducks guts.

In my old Charade I found on long trips the heel of a thong jammed under the dash and poking onto the accelerator did the same job but you had to be careful on downhill slopes (if not speeding is important to you) and uphill sometimes required manual intervention.

                    • Used the brakes properly for the first time today, guy in front braked hard and I had to plant the foot. Didn't skid, and damn its slowed down fast! Gotta say I was pretty impressed with the braking power. Lovin the brakes.

So that feel of gravel and rocks in the pedal is the ABS? Scared me the first time it happened, I thought I was metal to metal on the rotors or something.

yup, that's ABS. Try "brush and bury braking", you'll find the ABS won't engage in dry conditions very often. ABS generally engages cos the car is unbalanced when braking, brush and bury helps balance. The brakes certainly do a reasonable job - no complaints here.

It was a pleasant surprise when they sent me a reply stating that they withdrawl the infringement and instead issued a warning.
Hmm I just got a parking fine, my Polo Gti is listed as a sedan under the section "Model:" . Also the street listed does not technically exist (Commercial Rd is in Newstead not New Farm ).

Looks like it's time to write a letter... fingers crossed
