Thanks Junior again for organising the GB for the engine mounts. They were fairly straight forward to swap over. Just had to get the order of which bolts to do up first to get the gearbox mounts holes to line up.
Had to head over to Gav's for the other side for use of his extra long socket extension, but was in in 10 mins or so.
Drove around for a few days in between the two mounts going in so first impressions of just having the gearbox mount in were great. Only really felt some vibration in the cabin on cold start up but could already feel better throttle responsiveness. Then the other side went in last night and let me just say "HOLY VIBRATIONS BATMAN" I'm going to start charging the ladies $20 for a quick spin around the block if you know what I mean
These are not for the comfort orientated. On the long drive home from Gav's I think I could actually hear my eyeballs rattling around in their sockets. And the faster you go the worse it got. I did however ask for the race spec mounts. They loosened up a rather annoying rattle coming from behind one of the spring loaded rubber stoppers that makes contact with the glove box lid when you close it
The good news is the mounts must have settled in overnight because the vibrations on the way to work this morning were no where near as bad. And I suspect that will dissipate even more over time.
Now for the good stuff. Power delivery and throttle responsiveness has improved out of sight. So much more aggressive now out of the blocks and reduced power hesitation when planting hard mid corner. A bit more of an NA feel now. Torque steer is marginally increased though. But a very worth while performance mod
So off to the track for the first time this Saturday to see how the new goodies behave;
Brakes
Wing
Camber plates now running 2 degrees of neg
and mounts.
Bigger injectors are on the way so the turbo will be going on very soon Gav is taking to the hotside of the turbo for me with his die grinder to take off the lip seen here at the top of the exhaust inlet
The lip is said to cause boost creep on ko3s hybrids and getting rid of it will also effectively keep egt's down.
You said you have "race" version of the mounts. Do you have any idea if the part number is different between road and race versions?
I'm asking because when I've got them there was no option for road/race stiffness and I'm wondering what version do I have
I asked Alex for the race versions in all my email correspondence so I just assumed they are. Oh well too late now if they're not, but Vibra do offer the two options. Can't wait to hear others opinions when they install theirs, should be interesting
I remember it being posted somewhere that there were 2 versions so I had a chat to Alex about it when I placed the order. He was adamant there was only one version, and that was from vibratechnics not his own opinion
Sorry I can't remember where I read it but there was a fast road and race option. Doesn't matter considering the amount of vibration the road mounts are generating. I think the race versions would literally shake the car to pieces
So how'd it all go and feel on the track? Running any lap timer to start getting base measurements yet?
Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII Daily: 2010 VW Jetta Highline Gone but not forgotten: 08 Polo GTI
** All information I provide is probably incorrect until validated by someone else **
Took a few laps to get used to the camber on the front and I had to change a couple of lines to accommodate. Carrying so much more speed in the corners now, I can feel a lot G but the wing just pins you down so well.
I hit the limit of the street tyres so early this time round even though it was cooler than the last few times this summer. They were absolute mush by about three quarters through, so absolutely the weakest link for the first time.
Brakes were amazing! Had to hit the anchors hard just before the kink on the straight because the Lotus decided he didn't want to play anymore and I almost ended up through the windscreen, but very manageable and compliant with normal lapping. Plus zero fade.
I must say the engine mounts help so much on the track. Power delivery is instantaneous even in the harder corners It really revs early and very hard on demand.
Yes I think I'm ready to start some times sessions I think as soon as I get some semis and the new turbo sorted. Really happy with way it feels and it sounds weird but the polo feels very serious and grown up now. And I'm still on the crappy FK AK's. Go figure...
Looking like 26 May, will put the thread up on Monday night when i contact QR.
That was the first time Lindsay had taken the lotus out since he almost put it into the wall in teh wet so he was taking it a little more reserved than usual.
