  • has anyone upgraded their stereos?

Thanks for the input. First time with 8's, first time since my Corolla with 2 15's.

Im happy with the stock woofers once some sound deadening is added, the door skins sealed and the new HU.

    • sound deadening seems a good idea even if not upgrading the noise box

      • Ok I've been installing sound systems for about 10 years now but always jap cars and stuff and all this wiring looks like a headache haha might just ask my mates at north parra life style store 2 install this one

Was at the shop the other day looking at another double din clarion touch screen like I had in my old car cos I like my iPod list coming up on it. Was looking and just a hu and upgrading the speakers and just a 4 channel amp don't really want to put a sub in and weigh the car down

Was thinking just a nice set of splits up front and just looking at the back speakers looks like there is enough space to fit 6x9's in there has anyone done that setup?

It would require a fair bit of hacking to the panel, yet doable if you wish to go down that path

Decent set of fronts like morels will give you tonnes of mid bass and stocks in the rear for fill will sound great, I sometimes prefer my setup without the sub as its just more comfortable to listen to.

To be honest you don't hear the rears, I spent too much time emphasizing on the rears only to learn this

          • The only reason I want 6x9s in the back is for a bit more bass without installing a sub cos I want it 2 look neat and stealth and anything is possible if you know who 2 do it. Might have to start fiberglassing something 2 suit like I did my other car

            Cheers mate

            • Its not that hard to do a proper stealth install with a sub, set mine up with a decent 5ch amp and removable sub in the rear, the pdx amps are the most efficient ive ever seen, have had this thing pumping loud with the car off for over 2hrs straight with very little battery drain, tested with a multimeter.

Amp is completely hidden above the passenger foot well and invisible from outside the car

This was just after installing the morels

Used a piece of carpet to cover the panel as a temporary fix until i can dig up that kick panel and modify it, need an updated pic

Built a custom 12" sub box to maximize boot space, still fit everything I need to in the rear without any hassle.

Have also sound deadened the doors, quarter panels and boot, difference was amazing... Figured if i went half assed it'd cost me double lol

              • Ok so I picked up my new head unit the other day and was thinking of installing it 2moro unlikely I have any problems hooking it up most likely the hardest thing will be taking out the old one lol

Do I need special keys for this or something? I gave it a quick look other other day with just some normal cd player keys and I can hear them click so should I just try pulling it out as I do it or what?

                      • Do all double dins stock/aftermarket work the same i.e., insert keys and remove? I want to remove an aftermarket one.

                        • my wiring i didn't bother with the standard box and tapped right into the wires and it works like the standard head unit and turns off when i remove the key

no standard units need the right keys or just rip it out like i did haha after market depends on how its mounted but if you put a photo up of your setup im sure i can point u in the right direction and how 2 remove you current unit

                          • First of all - I hate this forum!! I'm spending too much money on this Poli GTI of mine.

After reading this thread from end to end I've come up with the following. I am looking for a simple plug and play swap over. Noting I need to source power.

                            1. Head Unit: Pioneer AVH2450BT DVD TUNER 2 DIN 5.8" BT - Appreciate any thoughts on this unit. I won't be adding amps, but bluetooth is a must.

                            2. Keys:

VOLKSWAGEN VW Fox, Polo CD Stereo Removal Release Keys Set 4 PC5-132 | eBay

                            3. Plug n Play Wiring Harness

VOLKSWAGEN Polo, Fox, Bora, Jetta Wiring Harness PC2-75 | eBay

                            4. Antenna Adaptor
VOLKSWAGEN Polo Fakra to DIN Aerial Adaptor PC5-111 | eBay

Have I missed anything? How hard is it to source power? Looking at the posts I think it will be obvious from the female end on the wiring loom plug??
