  • Chips, mods and boost..

    Hi all,

I started with my Polo Gti with a chip (APR). slowly slowly added dump pipe, intake, full exhaust and Front mount intercooler. Unfortunately, Ive added my boost gauge pretty much last..

Does changing intercooler or exhaust or even intake mods effect the boost..

My car had a strange episode the other day. I changed the air intake to a POD setup and it would only boost to maximum of 17.5psi (previously would go past 20psi)

But I decided to reset it and now it boost again to over 20psi..

At the moment give my car a hot and it will boost to over 20psi (my gauge only reads to 20psi) and then stabilised to about 18psi and past 5000rpm settle down to about 14psi...

But I dont know if this was the case prior to intercooler/dump etc..

But the other day, it just wouldnt boost more than 17.5psi.. didnt have that usual spike to over 20psi that it gets. doesnt matter what I did.. It felt slower through mid range as well.. dont know what it was..

I reset it by changing program on cruise control.. half an hour later all the boost was back and its flying??

Anyone know why it changed its temperment before the reset??

Sounds like the computer is taking some time adjusting to the different air flow.

Could it be that there is some restriction in the POD design you have? any turns or bends that have been added?

Its back to normal now but I reset it.. dont know why it stopped boosting as hard.. Maybe it had the flu?

          Boosting now harder than ever..

                Standard Boost??

Guy's and Gals, I have a question for you all. Took my car for a drive today after hooking up the boost signal tube, which by the way is fitted to the fuel reg. The cars boosting to 14psi? vacuum is -20 at idle. Is this standard boost on our cars? It's getting reflashed tommorow but just wanted to know what everyone else was boosting to when standard. The only mods I have at the moment is BMC air filter,Seat intake, and J N75 valve. Cant wait for tomorrow!!

As I understand stock boost is around 8-9 psi, not sure what the spike goes to. After chipping goes to whatever the tune. Mine spikes at 19psi with an APR v2 tune, no other mods.

Stock mine spiked to around 14PSI and settled to around 8.
Now with GIAC I see around 20PSI spike settling to 15.
                    Idle is -20 on both.

My car is spiking to 22psi, settles on around 17.5-18psi and holds that to about 5000rpm where it settles to about 15psi from 5000rpm upwards.

This is a APR V1 tune with dump pipe, FMIC, BMC Pod filter, full 2.5 inch exhaust.

I have a Autometer Boost Gauge, it only reads to 20psi, but when it spikes, it goes a fair bit over, so Im calling it 22psi.

                      Idle its 20.

Stock my car gets a little crazy, boosts up to about 14 psi, then snaps down to about 5psi and gets up to a bit under 10psi. I didnt really let the stock program learn properly, quick reset and drove it for a few minutes.. I think my mods upset it as it wants to boost harder and the stock tune just pulls the pin

Well done guys, plenty of fast moments ahead...

Now if you happen to work out how to keep the wheels on the road, please let me know.

I was driving through the city to pick up my boost gauge and on the slight incline at the lights UTS the car just smoked the wheels in 1st and 2nd. Its wasnt intentional. i just drove like i used to.. i guess im gona have to change my driving style now.

i have temp fitted the boost gauge but there seems to be a slight boost leak. after i tighten the forge splitter it held better.. The weird thing is the car drove hard all the way home with the splitter just after i got the flash but as soon as i fitted the boost gauge it just started to leak boost. Is it possible to have too many things attached to the vacuum system?

gauge now spikes to 18 and settles to 15psi

anyone else had a prob with the splitter before and after a flash?
