If you get the FMIC direct from the same place and then Sharky can send you the kit bits, probably won't be much more than if it were done locally.

But it may bring the price closer to the Forge price, so then you have to consider what works for you...

A few of us are pretty keen to get on with the custom FMIC piping, so if you are serious about going down this path, let us know soon (I'd like to think some time next week we will have the numbers to at least look at some confirmed costing).

    • I'm tentatively interested in the full kit.

      • Great, So I make it:

        Pretty much in:
        Noone
        GTI Monkey
        Club Racer

        TBC:
        Steve88
        Bora Sport
        Desmo
        Sean GTI
        Joe Chu
        Insane Kiwi
        Morbo2000

Seems like Insane Kiwi may not be interested for sure and Bora Sport I'm assuming wants one for his Bora, so for the Kits we have 7 interested parties.

I'll shoot Sharkie a PM and see what he can do in relation to designing and pricing a kit.

Anyone else who is interested, please feel free to chime in, but I'm expecting it will take Sharkie a few days at least to get around to this, so lets be patient...

        Will keep you updated.

          • Yeah if the price is going to be similar to Forge product, then I will pass. Good luck with the group buy!

            • Just to clarify. I shall shortly have a Polo GTI. I will know within the next fortnight whether the stock intercooler needs to be replaced. It has some visible damage but is currently not leaking. I will be getting it tested and I will make a decision then. If it has to be replaced then I may as well upgrade.

Sorry but I can't be more definite than that.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

              • Any chance the price moves and more the more people we get involved?

The more I can use to sell the necessity of this mod to my partner the better

                • According to Instigators Seat FMIC thread, he procured a kit for the massive Seat FMIC.

As this kit is not listed, I'm going to contact them to find out pricing.

Can anyone comment on how easy/hard it could/would be to alter this kit for Sharkie's intercooler? I know its a stab, but if the kit comes in for around $200 (somehow doubtful) and saves 1/2 the work, sounds like a good option moving forward.

                  • Well, the piping kit for the Seat intake cost a ballpark of 400pounds!
Even if this fit perfectly for the Frozenboost unit, its still a more expensive option than local fabrication.

Sharkie has expressed he's still about to assist us, but we need a minimum of 5 confirmed parties before we can progress.

The FMIC with piping is exstimated at $900. If 5 of us commit (willing to provide a deposit for the FMIC's to be ordered) we can get this underway.

One important thing, the mechanic producing the kit will need a Polo for measuring and testing. I would suggest the car would be needed for a few days (maybe 3) in Brisbane area.

To sweeten the deal for anyone willing to part with their vehicle, i'd suggest the rest of us subsidise the fitting cost for the donor, so there is some incentive (new FMIC fitted for $900 or less for 1 lucky taker...)

I'm going to say I'm definitely in at this price, I have a call in to a distributor in the UK for the Forge FMIC's as a comparison price as the AU$ is strong, but I think this is a good way to go.

                    Any other takers?

                    • I'd certainly be interested to hear more about the kits and potentially may be able to offer a donor car in Brisbane.

But, I'd want firmer estimates on price, ability to fit without structural modifications, and cooling ability first.

                      • No response from Awesome GTI about bringing in forge systems.

No response from other forum members about interest in intercoolers.

Looks like I'll have to wait until people start feeling the heatsoak for people to get interested again...

Because they were helpfull previously and Forge seem to be notoriusly slow to respond to these sort of requests.

I'm not expecting to get a great outcome this way, but i'm trying all options.

I'm keen to get something installed BEFORE summer, at this rate I'll be going to a local shop for a custom job as people here don't seem to be very interested (and I'm also impatient)...

                            • If we can't get 5 interested people to order in 5 FMIC's, those that are interested can individually order 1 in from that Frozenboost site.

I'm happy to arrange fabrication of the piping & fitment in Brisbane. As in .... point you towards the tuner (and do an introduction if needed) that will do the work.

If you are outside of Brisbane, you will need 1 taker in Brisbane as well to use their car as a template. The piping is fabricated on the car to ensure proper fitment. We can then ship the piping out to you.

I'll be seeing the tuner on Friday to have a chat about fitting my H&R springs & APR gbox mount insert so will discuss pricing with him then if we have a few interested.

No structural modifications required and cooling and flow as good as the APR FMIC. This was tested at the Brisbane Polo dyno day last year where intake temps were identical after 3 runs and boost levels as well.
