I think everything after a chip is an expensive kw crawl but fun if modding is ya thing...sure its not all about kw and nm but it gives you an idea.
Originally posted by [-Polo GTI-] View Postnot necessarily correct Chipped, that 42kW will only last you the first 5-10mins of driving then heatsoak will set in and you'll be down to about ~125-130kW at the flywheel (100-105kW at the wheels) from then on until your car has cooled right down again. thats a big difference from the ~150kW at the fly on your first few minutes of driving.
for the price of FMIC's and downpipes they should not be discarded. an FMIC may only give you an extra 5-7kW at the wheels from a cold start, but it will keep the power at that level consistently even when the car heats up. so really, an FMIC is giving you about 25-30kW at the flywheel on top of the chip on a hot engine.
There have been FMIC core's available on this site for ~$300 (about $950 installed), now thats value!
downpipes have been proven to give you about 7kW extra and hold off heatsoak for a lot longer as well.
but in my eyes these mods should be done AFTER the chip for maximum output!

So I should be feeling a noticeable difference? Actually feels like the turbo is spooling slightly later not earlier. Could all be in my head tho..I am getting a bit old.

Thanks everyone for your replies...i think i will be going ahead with the mod early this year...holding off heatsoak (without FMIC) is a big plus...also like the idea of free spooling and raspy note
Chipped: cheers for the offer...will definately T something up with you soon for a look/listen/pick your brain session - are you the white GTi with the cool APR Tuned badge @ the Galleria underground pre Sunday cruise?
Last question...new exhaust tip - anyone done it? Reccomendations? Note change at all?? Thinking of doing it after the dump/cat mod....will have to have a talk with Brian @ Quattro and see what he recommends

Hey chipped keep us posted as to the performance of the downpipe/HFC. I am mulling over whether to get this done as well. If it helps to control heatsoak then our very late WA summer heat will be an ideal testing ground. I've been driving around the heat these past few days and it may be me getting use to the new speed of the APR tune but I cant help but think these hot days are really slowing down my car. At times it feels like its not even chipped! I never really never noticed it when stock but since the APR tune it is very noticable. I am trying to decide whether to go a FMIC or exhaust ugrade at this stage. Having said I want to sort out the suspension as well. Huge wish list, not much cash...lolAPR V2 Tuned, APR Dogbone mount, APR R1 DV, K&N Panel Filter, SEAT Intake, Forge TIP & FSB, Bilstein & H&R, Whiteline RSB, Full Milltek 2.5" exhaust

OK, here's my review of the APR Downpipe.
I was the first person to have the downpipe installed - it was delivered to Guy the day I was there. I got it done the same time as the tune (and TIP/engine mount) so I can't comment on the benefits separately...
I drive it every day (done around 18000kms in the 12 months I've owned it - 13000 since the upgrade, including a track day).
First thing I noticed was the sound, it is more 'burbly' than stock and sounds more like a rally car with the occasional popping/crackling noise when you back off at high revs. The sound of the turbo is also a fair bit louder and you can hear the air being sucked in.
Dyno says I have about 7-8kw atw up on just a tune. 8kw atw for $1100 is pretty good - obviously nowhere near as much as the tune (42kw for $1500), but still worth the increase.
I would do it again if I started again.FOR SALE

DP and FMIC was worth 17kw atw to me for about $1500 fitted. So a bit less than the 30kw atw that a chip provides but well worth the combined effort to provide almost 50kw atw extra over a stockcar.
APR DP and FMIC will set you back over $3500 (fitted) for almost the same result.Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...
