I still managed to smoke a VE SS in Hexham today(with the blokes wife cackaling away in the passenger seat)
Haha. You blokes crack me up!
I've got to say without the Polo GTI people, I reckon this would be a pretty boring place!
On a side note. My old & lightly tuned mk1 GTI could stay in front of a pretty modded polo GTI in a straight line drag race (on a track, not traffic lights!) & there was no way in hell I could stay with a VE SS.
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

Guys, I used to daily a mk 1, with crappy paint, primered front end, poorly tuned, slower than pretty much everything on the road, standard wheels everything.
on paper, it's not a fast/quick car. I didn't look super cool or have the best wheels. and it defiantly didn't beat st on the street.
But.
Did I give a t. No. I choose to drive a busted mk 1, because I wanted to, and cause I enjoyed driving it. Yes I got bagged for driving a VW, for driving a 4 pot, for driving and old car, you name it I've copped it. Did I give two hoots? Nup. I didn't care what other people thought, I bought my car and drove it, cause I loved it. Not cause it was fast, or looked cool or ate SS commy's.
And yes, I could have afforded to buy a much newer/faster/safer/cooler car. I drove it cause I wanted to and didn't car what people thought.
Harden up. face it - Regardless of how fast a polo GTI is, it's still a lunchbox! Sure it's a neat package, and tuneable, and relatively quick etc etc etc. but it's still a hatchback, and will never have the "cool" image assosicated with [some] V8's.
If you can't handle the heat, by a SS or XR8. otherwise - stick it. be proud of your choice and be happy with what you havel, because it's what you wanted, not what other people think is cool.
If everyone started jumping off the harbour bridge would you follow?? No course not. duh...
