  • Heater not turning off

We have a 2006 1.9 TDI 9N3. Just recently I notice the heater is not turning off using the left hand control in the middle of the dashboard.

I am concerned the heater tap has failed.

The Haynes Manual doesn't specifically deal with this issue.

Can anyone tell me where it is located?

Is it inside the dashboard incorporated into the heater unit or elsewhere?

Need to know if I need to pull the centre control panel apart which appears to be quite a big job.

There is no heater tap mate. My advice before getting the tools out. Rotate the dial to full hot and cold a couple of times and set it where you want it to be.
The mk1 golf is the last VW I know to have a tap. Since then it's been blend doors.

You dont want to having the dash out if you can help it

      Thanks for the advice .

I will try what you have suggested.

Pulling that heater matrix out does not look like any kind of picnic.

      Cheers,
      Fred

I would drive with the windows down before pulling a dash out

http://I thought I would be adventurous and attempt to repair the blend doors. I have pulled the dashboard apart and can see the the "box where all of the air goes through. Having arrive at this point , I am concerned I may not be able to repair the doors with the box still in the car and that I will need to drain coolant and degas the A/C to remove the box and perform an on bench repair. Can anyone confirm that my suspicions are correct?http://http://

Having concluded that the blend doors can only be fixed on the bench after draining coolant and degassing, I have come up with an alternative solution to enable the heat to be regulated (turned off). I fitted a 3/4" ball valve. That has stopped the heat source and allowed cool air to flow once again. Further , having tested the car in 40 deg heat I found no change to the engine running temperature. My concern was that the continuous flow through the cooling system is essential to the proper functioning of the cooling system. It appears that is not the case.
