Yep, getting pretty good at "explaining" things on my cars. Having a pic of other cars with it on (like mine) will surely help your case ......

LOL, when I fitted the TIP and then later the FMIC, one day she-who-must-be-obeyed asked me why the Polo sounded different suddenly and I pleaded total ignorance. (BTW the FMIC gives it a slightly deeper growl )

Obviously she eventually got to the truth after some torture ....

AND asking for forgiveness then was much easier ....

The odd thing is ... they know what we're like when we get married ... say things like: "Wouldn't change a thing ..." then, almost immediately comes the 'BUT' ...

Laser guns are easy to beat. Fit a halogen light at the front (and rear if you think they will get you driving past a speed gun) and wire it so it's always on when the ignition is turned on. Put a polarised filter on the front of the light so to the naked eye it looks like it isn't on. When the laser hits the front of the car the polarised light interferes with the signal going back to the gun and doesn't give a strong enough signal to lock onto.

The only problem with this setup is you don't know if the lightbulb has blown unless you take the filter off.

        Cheers

        Paul

PS. I knew someone who fitted his radar detector in his hat. Drove the polive mad searching his car and not finding anything every time they pulled him over.

just come home one day looking pissed off and say that you bottomed out on a bump and smashed your exhaust to bits thats why its louder. and then complain that you need stiffer suspension to stop the car bottoming out

I agree Sharkie. I was recently done for doing 54km/h in a 50km/h zone at 7.28am, with no schools, shops, high traffic, elderly etc around. That cost me $142 and one demerit point. I can safely say I wasn't posing any more of a risk than an elderly person driving their Toyota Corona at 48km/h. Geeze it makes me mad. I would have no problem if I was being a ****head or presenting any type of risk, but this is blatant revenue raising at its finest.
            about $1200

It is the only unit that is undetectable to Australian scanners. All the other ones can be traced.

              Been tested. And failed.

We've even tested matt black cars. With no lights on. At night.

              Still got a reading.

Only thing which took a while to get a reading and by the time he would have clearly seen the police was a matt black motorbike at night with its headlights painted matt black.

Only other way around it is jammers. And only 2 actually work that you can buy.

If you have a BEL STI and a Jammer. Your bassicly unstopable. You dont need the jammer tho. BELSTI gives you heap and heaps of warning. And is the only one which WILL pick up speed cameras on the side of the road.

Whoa! I've just checked US eBay and they can be had for less than half that price. How long have you had your's? I'm seriously considering purchasing one.

I also thought it would be interesting to note that the people/companies designing and manufacturing radar detector detectors, are none other than us bloody Australians!

                        Thats an easy question...

I would go exhaust no questions asked..

                        reasons why..

                        1. We were travelling to Summernats, my mate in the car ahead had a Radar detector. We were travelling in a convoy doing about 160-180km/h.. If he slows down, we slow down etc etc.. He had the radar detector.. Out of the trees comes a cop car flashing lights, he nabbed one of the cars in our convoy, (we got away).. I rang my mate.. what happened to the radar detector? "oh it didnt beep". useless

                        2. I have been driving on a provisional 2 point good behaviour license for 6 months now. another 6 months to go before my full license is reinstated.. The reason why I have not been caught yet?

Im not getting caught because im not speeding anymore.

Just dont speed and you wont get caught.

                        Get the exhaust.

I don't get radar detector detectors. my thoughts are. Radar sends various microwaves EM spectrum the signal that comes back is Doppler shifted from the Doppler shift (and an easy equation) one finds out car speed then electronics in camera say take photo or not. So radar detector only needs to detect these EM spectrum and NOT send anything. so can't be detected.

laser traps work by trigger pulled IR laser light is fired TIME is measured for beam to return and the time the pulse takes to get out and back = car speed = man stepping in front of car = me saying police man tried to commit suicide (a.) he knew I was speeding and (b.) he still jumped out in an unsafe way. (ps this excuse doesn't work). again laser IR detectors do not send anything so can't be detected.

The laser jammers I know of are about 4 IR LEDs around the number plate and some near the headlights (hmm someone should replace the Audi r8 LEDS with IR ones) these LEDS work by. 1- police man pulls trigger and instantly gets a reading. guns says this is impossible car is going at the speed of light and gives error. how good this is I don't know you can use your mobile phone camera to "see" the IR from LEDS really great. but if police person uses his mobile Darn .. caught ! maybe you just say I have a better torch than yours!! you can also get some Veil to buy you more time!!

anyway if you are in brisbane http://www.theracingroom.com.au/pages/home.asp

                          check this out http://www.laserveil.com/

Talk to Dijon Great bloke will show you his HID set up on his Audi and the radar upgrade. he is a great bloke .. and will know people that have the radar systems and have used veil oh and bring him a bottle of RED

                          Happy driving

Some of you are missing a vital point: the Beltronics STI is not detectable! And it's meant to be one of the best detectors around for all types of speed cameras/radars.
