I'd suggest it's a supply/demand thing. If there is a wait list, they don't have to bargain if you want to buy a specific thing. If they have something nobody wants and it's been sitting around a while, then they will talk deals.

I learned at the Skoda factory that they don't make a single vehicle that isn't already paid for. Assume since Skoda is a German car company run by German management that it is the same at VW. In Australia, I presume that the dealers have to ante up to buy specific models/colours/options to get them here to sell. So every dealer probably has individual stock. Maybe VW Aust has a "float" of vehicles they will pre-buy too? Whichever way, someone somewhere gets overstocked on vehicles where demand is less than what they predicted. That's where there is more scope to haggle.

So if you are really chasing a price, be prepared to call *all* the dealers.

Would you think it is doable to get $22500 for a white dsg 81tsi + Driving comfort package with matts and tint?

$20,990 DSG with 12 month rego and tint. No matts no other options..
I told them my budget is $20,000 and or I'll buy a second hand car for my wife as they didn't want to budge much to start with. When I asked them for quotes on second hand Polos they came down with $20,990 for a new one. I pushed them on the rego but tint wasn't hard to get.

On pretty sure they make standard models and popular models for Australian stock and demo cars. My Polo was at the shipping docks already when I bought it.

Plus with Audi, they always have new Aussie stock sales.

        • Finally picked up my car yesterday after just under a 5 month wait! Uber happy with it so far, very responsive and comments about the audio are definetly on the money.

Just a quick phone pic from delivery attached.

From the factory perspective, every car is individual and truly to in Europe where customers get to pick and choose more options. For us the dealers will be guesstimating what colours options people might want. A month ago, there were a few surplus silver DSG Polos about we were being offered as "in stock". But if people want to choose more options in the spec list, then it's a longer wait for a custom build.

Nice looking Polo. What is the spec for these (eg is it still a 1.2L turbo / can you get them with a manual gbox / rough price).

Thanks yeah I think it looks fantastic. Mine is 1.2ltr turbo 6 speed manual with Sport & Driving Comfort package. Picked it up for $22,800 driveaway. They have had a slight price rise since then but only around $300 or so.

                        • Hmm your car doesn't happen to be coming over on the ship 'morning composer'?
That's where mine is and it's running a day behind now since I last checked it.
Arrives in wa on the 9th march now.

                          • No mines landed. The dealer is checking it over and getting the windows tinted then it's all mine. I'd have it Monday if it wasn't for the public holiday.
