In Australia, I presume that the dealers have to ante up to buy specific models/colours/options to get them here to sell. So every dealer probably has individual stock. Maybe VW Aust has a "float" of vehicles they will pre-buy too? Whichever way, someone somewhere gets overstocked on vehicles where demand is less than what they predicted. That's where there is more scope to haggle.
So if you are really chasing a price, be prepared to call *all* the dealers.
