Ok I thought so. Thanks for the tip. Looks like I need to crack the whip and get some answers!

Looking at this thread a probably paid a little more than the bottom price. I got a pearlescent black 66TSI DSG for $18,576. I was in somewhat of a rush and it was the last black one in Vic with only one left in Aus till the next shipment.

Are you comparing to a Mazda2? On my test drive which was on a bright sunny day, I found the Nav screen was in direct sunlight and almost unusable at times. As for the arm rest, yeh it's a bit annoying but you can raise and lower it or adjust it to be permanently angled a little higher so it's not as in the way.

Just picked my one up. Good to know that on a 37 degree day (well that's what it says on the cluster!) the VW aircon is keeping me very cool!

          Regards

Very nice to know! Some smaller cars can struggle in the heat.

Promotional prices are lower presently. $15990 manual Trendline. $19790 manual Comfortline. Looks like no negotiation past those.

                    Only you can decide that.

Auto VS Manual: Go with what you want. Also go to another dealer by the sounds of it.

Our local dealer in Victoria Park WA was not pushy but he was not very willing to budge on price. Got $1500 off from another dealer and gave them the opportunity to match it as we spent their time test driving etc (they didnt).

I made sure the contact stated 3-5 weeks delivery.

End of the day they are pretty cheap cars... a $1000 here and there isnt going to affect peoples lives. Its not like buying a $70,000 Audi where 10% can be $7000.

WRONG! Don't let the dealers make you think this. It is the age old trick. Tell the client there are no margins, tell the client they need to earn a living, tell the client the boss said no. My all the favourite, tell the client its already cost price. Some will not budge because they dont think you will buy it or think you will come back and buy it anyways for their price. But if you shop around you will get a better deal or your doing something wrong.

Read my post a few pages back and see what I paid for a DSG Comfortline. $20,990 with 12 month rego (up from 6) and tinting thrown in. No metallic paint but we got that down to $350/$400 if we wanted it.

We did buy 3 cars over the last 5 years now (Benz/Audi now VW) through this dealership network but that doesn't mean others cant haggle hard.

And we are in WA where on-road government costs are higher than I think all other states.

Also talk to a fleet/car-broker. We got some good quotes through a fleet service too which was almost as low as what I haggled out myself.

Do you mind sharing where you went? I have actually had an email from another dealer who mentioned there would be some room to move on price.

Our first experience was much like your following comment about there being nothing in it. I think they thought we would come back. Our last car we got a bit of a deal but not much (our first time buying a new car) and while I didn't think I got much then it was more the VW was willing to offer.

VW Mandurah. Did it all via email/phone after test driving at a local dealer who wouldnt budge of price. I am a repeat customer for the owners of the dealership and my father has also purchased cars from them in the past. They also part own the Audi dealer in WA.

...and despite the information in the brochure, the 66TSI Trendline does have the Blue Trainer function.
