When it works its acceptable, but it often fails to connect for some reason or another and the steering wheel controls do not work.

I had read somewhere recently (sorry cant remember where) there was a firmware upgrade to the touch adapter to allow stereo bluetooth rather than the mono that is currently produces.

Also wanted to see if anyone had any experiences with a bluetooth product called ViseeO Tune2Air WMA1000. It claims it can connect to the MDI and allow for streaming and display track information. It should also allow for the steering wheel controls to work as if an ipod was connected.
No need for any add ons if you upgrade to an RCD510, then you can remove the touch screen and enjoy stereo bt with track info.

Thanks for the idea. Just had a quick look on ebay and they don't seem to cost much more than the Tune2Air bluetooth module.

Im guessing it would require a VCDS recode. Would there be much involved in the installation.

        Installation is a breeze

You don't need coding for the RCD510, but you will need it if you want to remove the touch unit. Some people have managed to connect their phone direct to 'VW Phone', bypassing the touch unit.

Make sure the RCD510 is a Bosch unit (with a phone button on the front) otherwise you can't access your phone book or dial numbers. The cheap unit still does bluetooth audio and lets your answer calls though (and you can dial from the phone itself).

        • Thanks for your help mate.
I will do some more reading on the RCD510. Looks like the real ones are closer to $400.
have to decide if it's really important for me, $400 is still a bit of coin. Where as the bluetooth module should technically solve my issues for about $120.

Your help is much appreciated though.

A lot of people sell theirs when they upgrade too, gumtree might have some. Not as many on the forums since they're not in most new vws any more

            • Hi All,

I have been reading over and over (and over) this thread as I picked up my Polo 77TSI on Monday and absolutely hate the touch adapter. One of the major issues that I have had is that when I make a call and no body answers the touch adapter never disconnects from the call making the RCD310 unusable.

Has anyone else had this issue? I want to upgrade to the RCD510 in the future but am not in a financial position to do so at the moment so I'm thinking maybe the best thing to do would be to get someone to code out the touch adapter...

Other than this issue though, I LOVE THE CAR. Much better than the fiesta I had previously.

              Anyone able to help?

My wife's Polo was a pain in the arse until she bought an RCD510, then all was well (CD quality streaming/hands free phone calls etc).

You can pick up an RCD for not much over $200.00.

I would love to upgrade to the RCD510 but there is one more problem that I forgot to mention. The car I have is on a novated lease and I am not sure if I would be able to make a change like that to the car. Any opinions?

You could argue that the unit is not functioning correctly and therefore needs repairing. The cost of the new unit could then be claimed as a repair. Disclaimer: I'm not an accountant!

                    • UPDATE:

So I went into the VW dealership this morning and they are going to replace the unit. I just wish I could get rid of it all together.

I also asked the parts dept about a genuine iPhone 5 Handy adapter and they said that they are available, but the cost is $230. I just wish I could connect the Bury System 9 without the coding. I asked the dealership about the coding and they had no idea, then told me it couldn't be done.

Is anyone able to help me with this in Sydney?

                      • Sure you can do it. You could buy a cheap vag com cable off eBay and code it out yourself. There is step by step on a sticky somewhere on this forum. And am sure one of the guys on here can help too

I would love to be able to do it myself but the issue is that I have a Mac and I don't think that the VCDS will run on Mac

Is there someone around here that could give me a hand?

I work in Rosebery so if there is someone close to there that could help I would be so happy.

I wish! If only it was that easy. My computer is a work supplied laptop so I cant put a boot camp partition on to it. Plus I would have to buy a licence. I think in the end the cost would just amount to the same as if I bought the VW genuine cradle!

Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost for one of you to code the touch adapter out for me?
