I think I should be right with +40 offset and 225/35/18 tyres.

I'm getting coilovers so i'd rather push them 5mm closer to the inner wall than the fender.
if I were to guess, i'd say that your tyres are rubbing on the plastic cover on the inside of your fender

It's not just your personal insurance, your local roads authority (here in Vic it's the TAC) will not cover any injury that occurs to you and sometimes they can also take you to court to recover the costs of any injury and associated rehabilitation as well as compensation for any other party involved.

Run the risk by all means but if you crash into me, to quote full metal jacket "I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-f**k you", to put it nicely.

I mod my car yes, I wear the implications with warranty yes. BUT! NEVER WILL I MODIFY MY VEHICLE TO THE DETRIMENT TO MY SAFETY, THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS AND/OR THE SAFETY OF OTHER ROAD USERS.

If my car has a straight through exhaust (illegally loud) and I write it off through my own fault, insurance is not going to be able to refuse the claim because the car was "unroadworthy" due to the exhaust.

If it has a hellaflush wheel setup and is dumped to the ground, and I spin out around a corner into a tree, the insurer would have a pretty good case to refuse. If, with the same car, I rear-end someone due to inattentive driving, it would be harder for them to refuse.

All insurers are covered by the same legislation, whether it's your own personal insurance or CTP.

And if it came down to taking the issue through the courts, I think I would lawyer up.

If the insurance policy specifically says your policy is voided by something I wouldnt be pushing the point. Specifically the AAMI PDS says you are not covered "If your car was converted, altered or modified from its maker's specifications." (unless you notify them of the modification and they agree to continue to insure you). I dont think it will be a matter of refusing payout on your valid policy, they would argue that the policy does not exist. They have been totally open about their position that they cover unmodified cars only and you intentionally mislead them by saying your car is unmodified. At minimum you would need to ensure you have enough cash on hand to pay for your lawyer and hope he is better than the lawyer AAMI etc can afford.

Man, I couldnt even get NRMA to cover my tailight on a 100% standard car because they couldnt see how it got broken in the accident. Even though it was a fresh break and the broken bits of plastic were still there inside the light. If they put up that much of a fight over $100 they would surely fight hard over the cost of 2 written off cars and/or a green slip claim.

Actually yes, my brother was hit by a modded-to-the-balls lancer with illegal bodywork, wheel fitment etc. and it all ended up in court.

My beef is I don't understand why people modify a 2 tonne piece of machinery beyond the safety factors and logical sense and still expect it to perform the same way without any adverse effects, yet then rant and rave when a cop pulls them over for it or take the sentiment of it never being their fault when something goes wrong....

Maybe I'm just getting old.

without rolling guards and cracking paint, no would be the answer... but who knows maybe someone has tried it and im wrong

Oh and if they did fit, it would poke a lot and you would be now in the "illegal" slot

I'm noob with fitment, especially with a vw. I was wondering if you guys would know if 17x9 +35 with 215/40 all round would fit without any issues on a 6r gti?

And I heard that the rear axle moves forward when lowered or something? And I have seen some pictures online of dumped polo's where you can clearly see the rear wheels have moved forward...is there anyway to fix that? It doesn't look right~

Just a throw in the dark but do the Golf Detroit 18" rims fit on the Polo Gti?

Nope unfortunately the Golfs have a different PCD to the 100x5 PCD of the Polo's.

Yup makes it bloody hard to get rims for the polo because of it. I was looking at getting some 18"x9" Mercades 5 spoke AMG's from the SLS AMG for my car but the PCD was incorrect and just decided to get the Boavista's...
