6R Polo GTI Middle Muffler Delete

Got this done yesterday. Simple cut and weld job. Blokes said they will weld it back on when I want to reinstall it.

Good welds and no leaks. These guys were top notch. It is a fun and cheap mod until I replace the exhaust.

Yes Nomadx did his on his 77TSI... I think he said it sounded worse.

Rear muffler delete on 77TSI sounds insane though

Yep I did it on mine and its s**t to say the least. Definitely doesn't sound anything like a GTI with the resonator removed which is what I'm going for.

To get a good sound remove the rear muffler and keep the resonator. If you want to wait a week, I'm getting it done next Friday, I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm doing a full rear delete. So currently I have a straight pipe in the middle and the muffler at the end.

What I will be changing to is the resonator in the middle and a straight pipe at the end.

I bought an official vw clamp so I don't have to keep taking it back to the exhaust people to get work done. I just have to unbolt and change over.

Are there any legalities regarding having no rear muffler?

"Technically" no. There are 2 conditions for an exhaust system for a car.

1: the car may not bypass or create more emissions as a by product of a exhaust modification

2: the car may not make more than 90DB of sound 1m from the rear of the car @4000rpm.

Also I think there is legislation that says you may not increase the power output of the car but I think that refers to performance exhaust manifolds and high flow cats. Making a straight pipe from the resonator will create a bit more flow but 1-2kw tops hardly "performance" orientated and obviously is way past the cat so there is no change in emissions.

Because the polo is a 1.2L there is very little displacnt for it to make a lot of noise. But nether less I will be checking with a metre to make sure it is within limits but from what I heard from Marcus BILT polo it's "louder" but not over the top like a comodore or falcon with a straight exhaust.
