Whats with the removable bluetooth screen thingie?
Are you able to show us a pic with and without your phone attached? I'm intrigued how something like this can be universal when all phones are different sizes and the location of usb port different.
Yeah sure, i'll post some up tomorrow when I get to work! Though you can see in this video how you can adjust it for different phones:
(video is a bury 8 model, but the cradle itself looks the same for bury 9)

I just gave VW mascot a call to change the code via VCDS when my car is going in for warranty, and they are telling me 'it cannot be done' and they need to discuss this with the head tech.... arrg!

A lot of stuff is impossible when you can't be bothered
The dealers coder isn't actually called VCDS, I can't recall its name though. But giving the raw coding numbers will work fine with their unit.

hi Zakarados,
funny you say that coz i picked my car up from vw mascot last week and i was fortunate enough that there tech guy was there and he made it so i could use the bluetooth from the MFD without the touch adapter being in the cradle. maybe you can tell them there tech guy did it for another customer last week?

Hi 6Reaper,
That is great news!!!! do you happen to remember his/her name? They are going to give me a call back when they talk to the 'head tech' but I am sure they will come back saying it is not possible.
my sony ericsson has the usb port right up top corner. Do you think it would fit OK? Perhaps more importantly, other than charging does it need to be connected?

Sorry mate forgot to reply to this thread. Though the cable supplied should be long enough to reach the top right corner of the phone. Also as mentioned previously, the cable is to charge the phone and hook it up to the external antenna. I took this photo when I got home (I can take a better one during the day if you still want one):

You will get used to it. When driving it is out of sight after a very short time. I just wish I could get it to understand my voice commands. Neither the man inside the bluetooth or the woman inside the steering wheel can understand a word I am saying. "Call Natalie" will always be heard as call history. "Call Peter" cant be understood at all. Even cancel doesnt always get understood. It is easily the worst thing about the car. I dont know why VW chose to do it that way when the golf loaner system that I had for 4 days was perfectly usable, visually pleasant, not break and enter bait.
Yeh, I gave up on "Call *name*". I just use "Dial number" now and that is pretty reliable. You can try to train it familiarise itself with your speech but I'm not sure if that works that well.
Arrg! So I just got my car back from VW and they say it is not possible to change any codes in the MFD to allow the BT touch adapter to be removed!
Well that's what the dealer says. I can vouch that it can be done, you just need someone with a VAGCOM cable and VCDS. There are plenty of them around Sydney - just check out this thread.
In fact, I met up with a guy on Saturday who helped me disable my "voice activation" button. Now it just mutes the stereo when I accidentally click it.
thanks Readerr0r for the help on the coding, and Staz for the VCDSing
