Sorry to see that SilverBug, I know how I'd feel if that happened to my R. I'm feeling your pain. Let us know what the insurance company does.

I think it was NRMA. Just make sure you have an agreed value policy. You just have to be realistic in that the new for old cannot apply for you.

My 77TSI was written off after storm damage recently (struck by lightning to be precise). I wasn't planning on waiting 6 months for an exact replacement car, So after weeks of phone calls and numerous email exchanges, I was paid out the full price I payed for the car under the RACV the new for old policy. Originally they were going to pay just the agreed value but I made a complaint about how poorly the claim was handled and how bad the customer service was; they in the end, after it was escalated to the manager, as a "customer service gesture" , paid me out in full.

I was lucky at the same time, a dealer had 3 GTI's due for December delivery so was able to secure one of them

Wait, sorry I think I'm a bit slow here but what's the difference between being paid by the agreed value and paid in full?

I thought agreed value is the value you nominated (which is the price you paid for the car) and agreed by the insurer to cover the car under that value. So if the car was deemed by the insurer as a write off, they would have paid you off in "full" via the agreed value right?

            BTW 2 things to note.

If you can see 30 dents a dent guy will probably pick up at least double that.

Don't be tempted to add more dents to increase the likelyhood of a writeoff or the insurance payout. A good dent guy can pick the real from the fake.

Haha did think about that. But yeah why risk it. Could not bear the thought anyway.

True, sometimes the pros have to use one of these to detect dents

I have checked, my NRMA policy is agreed value. I seem to recall I get a new vehicle for the first 2 years of the policy. Mmmm, green Scirocco looks nice.....

Good luck to the guys who have had hail damage, I know I'd be gutted if my baby copped hail damage. You just wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy.

Last year,Pickles and Manheim Fowles sold thousands of hail damaged cars in Melbourne,to bargain seekers,as they sold at 40 percent of their normal value, and Vic roads said they did not need to even be repaired to have them re registered,as long as they were inspected for proof of identity...as structually, they were perfect as had not been involved in an accident.

Sorry my bad, what I meant was the market value. The insurance company had the nerve to offer me $19500 on the initial assessment! It wasn't until I complained did they pay me the full 30K I payed for my car.

i guess it works out for people that want to pick up a car on the cheap and arent too fussed about the appearance. as long as it drives nice

Ah that makes sense now! What did you choose for your policy initially, agreed or market value? I'm assuming market value?

I choose agreed value of 32.9 but apparently they calculate a write off based on repair cost being 80% of agreed value? Is this true?
