VW Australia Customer Service now managing Polo GTi order wait enquiries and updates
But who cares... it'd mean you have to drive a Renault day in day out, lol.
Hence why whilst you waited months and months for your Polo GTI, you could walk into a Renault dealer tomorrow and drive away with one in the colour and spec level you want
Oh, and btw... for the money of the Megane Trophee, your Polo GTI will wipe the floor... and STILL be a nicer car to live with
Ordered on Jan 29th thankfully right before the Feb minimum 12 month wait crap.
Got a build date for week 26 - week beginning June 27.
Current status is having left the factory and on a train to the docks in Bremerhaven, Germany. Still hasn't arrived at the port.
If it gets to the port before next Monday and fingers crossed the ship departs some time next week, 6-7 weeks shipping time puts the arrival date in Australia end of Sept/start of Oct. Allowing for 2 weeks at the Melb. dock put estimated date of arrival at the dealership by my calculations around October 14th.
2011 Polo GTI - Reflex silver, metallic. Ordered 29th Jan, received 8th Oct.
Oh forgot to add, got the courtesy call from VWA last week. Said they were going to e-mail me a link to a website where I could check the status of my order. No such e-mail as yet.

Would be interesting to see what other sort of emails people are getting at various stages of their order status.
Thank you for your recent order of a Polo GTI. We are delighted that you have chosen Volkswagen, and we're sure it will all be worth the wait.
As your dealer mentioned, the Polo GTI is a very popular car. Subsequently, global demand has been high and Volkswagen is working around the clock to fulfil current orders. Unfortunately, this popularity has translated into a longer waiting period than usual.
To make this wait as bearable as possible, Volkswagen Australia has set up a dedicated program to keep you up-to-date with the status of your vehicle, notifying you at various stages until arrival.
We have also arranged a dedicated line you can phone with any queries. This could be anything from when or where will my vehicle be built to how does it get to Australia. The Volkswagen call centre receives status updates every week, so is the most up-to-date source on information about your vehicle.

I called the number and confirmed that no production date had yet been allocated (order 27/04).
I said that it appeared from online forums that March and April 2011 orders were still awaiting build dates. I was told that this was not correct and that some orders as late as May 2011 had been allocated build dates. I queried whether this was in respect of Polo GTI's and was told it was for both Polo GTI's and Golf R's.
I asked if this was because cars of a particular spec had been pre-ordered by dealers and hence if they got a customer wanting a car of that spec, then it was simply allocated to the customer. I was told that it had nothing to do with the dealers and was up to VW Germany.
This might be taken to imply that if you complain vociferously enough you might get bumped up the queue!
However, the guy I spoke to seemed a bit vague about precisely where allocation of orders to do production was at and I am not sure that too much should be read into his comments.
When I ordered in february this year I was quoted March/April next year for delivery. No complaints or anything, a production slot simply opened up. Even the dealer was perplexed. He reckons they do runs of certain colours or configurations... shrug, who knows what VW Germany are thinking.. probably not a lot if they couldn't anticipate this kind of demand . hehehe
Here's what I got today. I love how the date / time ranges are so 'broad'........
Dear ,

Polo GTI - 5 door - Candy White, Xenons, Comfort Package, Audio Upgrade, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors and Tint
Interesting thread - thanks all for the info. I've gone back to my dealer to ask for a Commission number to see if I can call the 1800 number to track down a more definitive ETA for my Polo GTI! I ordered 25th May.
MY12.5 Candy White 5 door Polo GTI. Upgrades/Mods = RNS510 H LED, RVC camera, Auto Lights Dash Sound Actuator GTI button, Gavs Footrest(!)
WIP = Miltek Turboback Exhaust, Cold Air Intake, Red Stuff brake pads (Nov '13)
VWA emailed my VIN a few weeks ago , and I've now traced it. It's loaded on the boat!! but is still going to take longer to ship than it used to take a shipload of convicts to get here 200 years ago.
Anyway, I'm excited. But I wonder what model I'm getting...MY12?
Anyone know how to check a year model from a VIN number? VWA couldn't help, but did say that my model is 6R19V7. Whatever that is.
