Engine Oil usage after Engine Rebuild:
So far so good 2 weeks on, 400km driven (I dont drive it much), the dip stick is still showing full. I did notice the oil was a bit overfilled from the service centre, but it hasn't dropped much which is good to see. Black soot on exhaust pipes and hatch seem to be non existent. Fingers crossed it stays this way... It is still early days though.

Just got my car back from having it's engine replaced today (took 2.5 days). Someone asked if I was getting an engine rebuild or a new engine. I can confirm it's a new engine - part #03C100040AX. I also took before & after photos that confirm this as well. Unfortunately as suspected it's another CAVE. I'll see how this one goes.........

In fact, this morning I had a very, very sad Mk6 golf 118 TSI go past me up a side street near my girlfriends place on a flat bed after an engine fire with no other frontal damage, related maybe to the oil and overheating issues also on a global scale? Or just a random coincidence...?

I have a Mk VI Golf 118 TSI DSG with stage 1 APR, 132kW and 309nm dyno, which might be something around the Polo GTI output from essentially the same engine? I'd never had oil use issues until post-60,000klm. Which sorta ties in with getting the stage 1. Anyway, regardless, it is now using oil. I've not measured and monitored for long enough to be accurate, but I'd say 2.0 to 2.5L over the past 15,000klm.

So, not as disturbing as some Polo engines on this forum, but still unusually high in my view.

My previous car was a 6.0L Calais V, and I had a fuel card...so that thing went very hard all the time. I traveled 90,000klm in 3 years, never touched the oil.

Prior to that a Spec B Liberty 3.0L. Possibly my all-time fave car...did 125,000 klm in 2 years and absolutely caned this car. Never touched a drop of oil.

I'm going to accurately monitor the oil in the Golf now... I had it serviced yesterday (75,000klm) and have zeroed the trip meter and checked the dipper...looks over full, so will check again tomorrow on a flat servo service and take to dealer if in fact it is over full.

I don't do the miles I used to and I love the Golf... if 2.5L in 15,000 is making me unhappy, I really don't know how I'd handle some of the things I've read on here...you're stronger men (and women) than me!

the reality of it is that high performance motors burn oil. the polo gti 6r only has a 1.4L motor that is pushed pretty hard. a few guys at work have reasonably stout BMWs (e60 M5 and a e46 M3) both of which burn oil and i can tell you a hell of a lot more engineering $$$ went into these 140k and 240k cars.

people burning 1+ Litres in <1000kms is a different story.

In summary. He has common GTI engine issues, he has had it checked a few times and had an independent person look at it, he has refused to let McGrath diagnose any faults and demands a refund. The tribunal concluded that the owner has not let McGrath look at it properly and concludes that there is little evidence as to why he should receive a refund.

I cannot go into specifics for legal reasons at this stage but lets just say that the fate of Mr Peacock was determined before that hearing even occured....

I can't help but to read through the entire sequence of events and it is very interesting indeed. I am not sure where it actually lead to in reality but I can conclude two things is of certainty:

1. "The mere fact that the vehicle requires repair or is capable of repair does not render it unacceptable as to quality." - which means you can't just ask for refund of the money paid at first purchase if you can still drive this vehicle.

2. "The second respondent (Volkswagen Group Australia) remains willing and able to inspect the vehicle and carry out any necessary repairs pursuant to the warranty of the vehicle at no cost to the applicant." - which means that they are willing to repair everything that is deemed defective under their inspection. Kinda sucks for the purchases as there is no independence carried out here.

Hey...recently went to dealership to get my oil topped up; the mechanic forgot to put the cap back on. Found out when I popped the bonnet to investigate the persistent oil smell with oil everywhere in the engine bay. Complained in the feedback form
they rang back and offered me a free engine wash - what is an engine wash?

ummm. Just a stab in the dark but they wash the engine. Like remove all the oil that wouldn't be there if they hadn't stuffed it up in the first place.

Replace the bonnet insulator also as its shd be stained with oil now.

I'd be interested to see what results other people get. Slightly interesting is the iron content at 32 points, where the caution threshold is greater than 45.5. Still moderately high, won't know until next oil check, or if someone conducts similar analysis.

Should not have so much iron. Are you using original air filter system or you changed something? Fuel dilution is higher than my own comfort level. Lastly, how many times have you changed your oil?
