Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I took my car in on Wednesday to have the oil consumption looked at and some rattles. Apparently my car already had the oil breather pipe fitted from factory. Being a MY12.5 (delivered April 2012) I thought that was strange as even some MY13 don't have the pipe fitted. Was told to come back after 1000km to get the oil checked.
Has any one else with MY12.5 also have the breather pipe fitted from factory?

Thats interesting, I have a May delivered MY12.5 and I'm not sure if it has the Pipe either. There are some pics of the breather pipe in this thread a few pages back. I'll see if the unit is in mine.

Edit: Looks like it's pretty hard to tell if it's there or not. Especially if it's done form factory. Anyone have any hints?

Check the part number against what Kawabanga posted. Maybe one engine plant has been fitting them and the other hasn't....

Do you think it'd be printed on the pipe under the engine cover?

My oil hasn't moved since I got it changed at 7800KM (~9800 now)

Edit: I've got a 18-01-12 built engine which has an AB pipe. This doesn't seem to be the new breather pipe.

          • my car is back - had the breather pipe FITTED today and it is an MY13.
has to go back in 1000km, oil temp sensor is faulty is why the --- was coming up.
no updates on the DSG (was only checking).
            seals much quieter now.

            • readerr0r you have the old pipe. I have an MY13 & it had the old pipe, I replaced it myself with A007 V 03C 103 474 AD. The new pipe has a grey coloured part at the tee off point.

alexz I would be surprised if the sensor is your problem if the MFD has never displayed oil temp. I had that issue from new, advised VW dealer it was an adptation/coding issue associated with instruments control unit. They had the car for 2 days & said it needed a whole new instrument cluster & ordered one from Germany. After their incompetence associated with returning the vehicle with a locked radio unit & bolts missing, I got a VCDS cable & coded it in 2 minutes. I then gave them the screen shots & instructions on how to rectify & told them to cancel the new instrument cluster. I was not prepared to deal with any more of the dealership incompetence.

definately says on the invoice "ordered new sensor" and diagnosed it faulty, perhaps when the fit the new sensor and get the same issue maybe they will investigate more haha!

                    • My new engine was delayed so now its going in on the 29th of January.

Anyone else here had their engine replaced yet and have any advice ?

I want to ask and get proof it is a "new" engine, but is there anything else ?

Maybe you could make a note of the engine numbers and compare old vs new?

If it is a new engine then it will have a new engine number.
They could also do an engine rebuild in which case it would be hard to know exactly what they have done, other than trusting what they say.

                              • I stand to be corrected on this ....... but the Crankshaft ventilation hose works by allowing crankcase to breathe easier stops it from pressurising , means oil is not forced up beyond the piston rings in to the combustion chamber thus reducing pressure in the sump .
