    TSI for the win

Nothing against diesel....but only in bigger cars/suvs/4x4s

Diesel fuel prices are higher than petrol and the amount that you "save per liter" with the TDI will take you YEARS to "work back"

    Hope that makes sense
    POLO 77TSI DSG 5D - MY11 - REFLEX SILVER - COMFORT PACK
    Engine - K&N Air Filter (e-2997)
    AV - Rockford Fosgate T1652-S , T1652 and P3L-S12 Sub. Alpine MRP-F600 and Alpine MRP-M500, Dynamat
Planned - lots, but the "financial manager" says NO

Your right, the payback it 120,000km+ and for many people that almost the lifetime of the car. Resale value is slightly improved so you get some back, but like you said unless you do lots and lots of KM it doesn't always make sense.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

VW customer centre advised me if doing short runs 10km ish then buy TSi...took their advice and love it.

Hmm... I always take into consideration and try to see what the buyer really wants and never force my opinion over that too much. That's why my soon to be son in law bought vRS Octy 147 TSI, I didn't even suggest him to roadtest TDI. It would be tragic to try to change his mind in the vulnerable moment because he would probably never properly enjoy the car. Now he fell in love for a second time.

I know .... just stirring .... with Hawk coming from a VR6 he's never going to like a 66kw TDI ..... If it was the 77kw TDI, maybe it'd be a different story but alas VWA in their infinite wisdom decided to deprive us of the pleasure ....

I ordered the 77TSI and am already eye-ing off the DNA Tuning Stage 1 upgrade...

Of course since signing the papers I have been enjoying the VR6 just that little bit more... seems she doesn't want to be sold

You'll never stop missing the VR6 ..... I still miss mine .... and its been 13 years since I sold it. In fact every time I see 1 for sale I have to fight the urge to buy it .....

Diesels are GREAT in little cars - you obviously haven't driven a good CR diesel passenger car (the Polo 6R doesn't make the grade due to its DPF implementation, unfortunately).

Not for the 98RON that recent petrol VWs prefer (or even the 95RON that they can tolerate)

No I have not. The last small diesel car I drove was ATROCIOUS, will not even name it in here
