I dont think the orders are processed by VWA in contract date order. It seems that it all depends on when the dealer gets an allocation of cars. They then assign the allocated cars to their contracts. I ordered a GTI in April 2011 and my dealer just got an allocation of GTI's for Q1 2012 which resulted in me getting a week 6 2012 build date and estimated April 2012 delivery.
I think that is why there are such wide discrepancies between contract dates and build date delays between people on the forum. If you can crack how cars are allocated to dealers and then you might be able to minimise the delay.

I signed my contract on 21/04 but according to VWA my contract date is 27/04 or thereabouts (i.e. after Easter). VWA seems to have given up on email updates and started referring people back to their dealer. All I can suggest is that you ask your dealer where your order is at, when they are expecting another allocation of cars and whether yours is their oldest contract.
Good luck!

Sounds about right, the contract you signed must've done the typical sit on the sales person's desk for a week (while your payment cleared if it wasn't by cash/bank deposit).
Sometimes they'll wait 7 days before they put it through due to the cooling off period where you can cancel your order and get your money back.
Fairly typical and standard but annoying business practise.

It amazes me that people were still placing orders beyond June last year. I was absolutely keen on one but was quoted 18-24 months wait. The dealers absolutely did not want the hassles.

Like many others, we have had a long and frustrating time trying to buy a Polo GTI. We were even within a shove of signing up for a Fabia RS, due for release in March, but, today we walked into our local VW dealer and there was a newly delivered, yesterday, brand spanking silver GTI. We pick it up tomorrow. Also bought a 132 Tiguan. One hell of a Christmas!!!
