Mate, sent you an email, best bet would be bloody friday NEXT week Can't pick it up saturday obviously so it better be bloody ready before friday!!!!!!!!! There's no accessories or anything being fitted to it so theoretically it should take next to no time to get ready..... Theoretically....
Sorry mate, I left work early today to make some travel arrangements, so I missed your email. That totally sucks, shame really, as our cars were made together and have been joined at the hips right up until they hit the docks Fingers crossed for you that you might get it before next Friday!

hi guys just wondering if anyone else has had trouble trying to track their car? I have used the website supplied from here but my vin doesn't seem to work, nadcon screenshot says departure port of shipment 03/06/11 am I trying to look it up too soon? thanks
Make sure you have the full VIN (from the Vehicle ID field), and then just keep trying once a day. I'll eventually show up. As with any of the dates in NADCON they are "Estimated Time of Arrival" etc. So once it's left the factory, the days are completely up to the logistics companies...

Picked it up this morning - absolutely love it. It's better than I remember when I test drove.
Just to confirm a few things;
1. there is no privacy glass
2. the climate control aircon illuminates blue with black digits
3. under seat storage is there
Really love the sunroof.
Will post some pics tomorrow as will be spending the day detailing.
GTI Joe and Gavs - hope you get your hands on yours soon!!
Hey, congratulations, Frostee!
Any sign of the vibration/rattle near the windscreen? My dealer was able to fix that quite easily by replacing a clip on one of the lines near the bulkhead. Also fixed a rattle in the door that I had previously heard, but was so intermittent, I hadn't even bothered to mention it.
So if either occurs, looks like an easy fix!
Looking forward to the pictures!
BTW, my dealer lent me a 3 door GTI while my car was with them. My thoughts on the 3 door - nice wide opening to get in and out! As long as you are not wedged between 2 cars in a carpark.... Door is HEAVY too - hope the welds hold (I had a door fall off it's welds in the past, due to its weight). Also, the B-pillar is further back, so getting to the seatbelt is a bit harder for my ageing shoulder. Niggles, to be sure, but I made the right decision for me, with the 5 door.

My new 5 door GTI is showing "Handed to production" this week. Does that mean they have started the build? From those who have been tracking their cars, how long generally has it taken from this stage till arrival?

Nah, you're just doing it wrong.
I always have a laugh to myself when I see people try and put their left hand over their right shoulder to grab the seatbelt in a 3 door. The trick is to sit "normally" in the seat, and put your right hand down and back beside the seat to grab the seatbelt from low down. Then there is zero strain on any part of your body - even less than grabbing the seatbelt with your left hand over your right shoulder in a 5 door!

Hmm,
So car is in Melbourne. Dealer still saying 4+ weeks. Dealer also giving me strange answers to simple questions.
Crikey...if he's stating 4 weeks then it's obvious he's not trying hard enough as that is utter lunacy. Maybe consult with someone a little higher up the food chain.
Hi nugget. From production date to dealer delivery is 13 weeks. My 5 door GTI was built on 17th March and is being delivered to me on 16th June - next Thursday.
I was looking at my car in the sunlight this afternoon and the side windows looked acidly dark seriously they looked tinted. I"ll take some pics tomorrow and post them, but having driven the car today (was a lovely sunny day in Melbourne) I'm pretty much decided that I won't get tinting.
Also tried out my $30 eBay sourced MDI cable for my iPod nano and it worked a treat.
Probably the only criticism I have of the car is the dial on the drivers door for the mirror adjustment feels a little flimsy. It works though.
So thrilled with my car. As mentioned previously it is better than I remember from the test drive. I think I actually prefer it to my old MINI and that's really saying something coming from me
Edit: One other thing. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that both keys are full functioning remote keys. Many cars these days seem to have one remote and the spare a manual key. Nice!
