Tracking Progress on your Polo and Polo GTI

Is that a GTI? When did you order your car? The delays are unbelievable...

Just got off the phone to Peninsula VW (Frankston, VIC) and I was told October when I purchased the car, as the worst case scenario and now they've just told me that it's probably going to be the first week of January 2012. Not very happy with that.

I hear you prcurrie. The dealer contacted me last week and confirmed my GTI's delivery date is still Feb 2012. I placed my deposit first week of Feb 2011...

When did you order?

Ordered the first week of April but I 'supposedly' took the allocation of someone who had ordered one, but then cancelled it - so it meant I was getting it earlier in October. They said that October was 'the worse case scenario'. Not sure if that was just sales speak and January was always the 'true' delivery date. I know someone who ordered one from there as well 2 weeks before me and they were told October as well, so I'm going to get them to check what the status is tomorrow............

Yep - GTI. They're banging on about how VW underestimated the demand for Aus and each dealer only gets a certain allocation each month (e.g. 5 cars) so if more than 5 people put an order in, the list just keeps growing! I have a mate ordering a new Audi A7 in the US, and it was only ordered 2 weeks ago and he'll get it the first week of July! The VW needs to learn something from their Audi sister!!!

I know someone who ordered one from there as well 2 weeks before me and they were told October as well, so I'm going to get them to check what the status is tomorrow............

How funny; it seems October is becoming the common mystery delivery date. When I first placed my deposit I was told 12 months (Feb 2012). Then in April the dealer contacted me and says it will now be October 2011 I was stoked!!!

And now I've been contacted again and told it's back to February...

When I did my hissy fit with VW about my car I was told that allocation to Dealers is effectively 1 per month per Dealer

Yep, same as frostee, this might be different for you guys now but I would doubt it. If you have a look through all the threads on here, basically what some of us were able to find out (with little support from certain others....) is that it isn't an Australian problem because VGA is just an importer, true that they are useless as tits-on-bulls but as they say, fish, rots and heads and all that. Trust m when I say I know exactly how you feel and the dealers compound the aggravation with telling lies to make sales. It's a global shortage of cars, VW has invested €5 billion in a new factory and it is already fully booked for production!

I ordered my GTI, minimal options only xenons and pearl black, Mid Feb, my dealer still can't give me a date... says nothing is coming up on the NADCOM except the date order was made... :S

I just voiced my frustrations with my dealer regarding the pushed out delivery date. I'll see what response I get back from them. Considering my car isn't going to get here until next year, I've got time on my hands to stir the pot!!!! Will keep you posted!

Tombarra due to pop up on radar any hour now guys off WA coast

For those of us in Melbourne, the cars unloaded from the Toreador on the 6th have been delivered as of today, a 7 day turnaround after being unloaded on the due date, seems this is one truth from VW that was actually true, Wallenius Wilhelmsen boats so far have not been effected, nor VW deliveries from the strike action being undertaken by the Patrick's unionists....

If I get proven wrong though, I will not be hapy!

I have heard back from the dealer today. The manager has advised me that there's been a shortage of components at the factory which has lead to orders for Australian being push backed. He said that VW AG is going to make some decisions by the end of the month whether they allocate the existing lots to fulfil Australian orders. If they don't, he said the Aussie dealers will probably be told to stop selling the Polo so the current orders can be processed. I'm taking this info with a grain of salt. It's funny that the worlds biggest auto group doesn't have parts to build it's cars. The dealer has assured me he will call me by the end of the month with more accurate details.

Not holding my breath.

I might see what VW Australia as to say!!

So sorry to hear this. I keep pinching myeself that I have been so fortunate to get one as "quickly" as I have. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and everyone else that the cards fall your way.

A little too early for ship watching just yet - is due in freo on sunday arvo at 4 pm - australian eastern time = 6pm 15th may UTC from ais site.
