2x Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 tyres
Super Pro Lower engine mount
Super Pro Beam Axle Pivot bushing
Super Pro Control Arm - Inner Front bushing
Super Pro Control Arm - Inner Rear bushing
Super Pro Steering Rack & Pinion bushing
Whiteline Rear Sway

Now to get them installed

What have you done with your Polo so far (and today)

Now I sound like a noob, but does that mean that a coilovers are nothing special because cars with McPherson struts have always had the spring over the shock?

What is the rave with coilovers then? I know they are adjustable and all (by means of a screw thread...I think) but what makes them so different to a normal setup. Or is it just the fact that the shock is matched to the spring because they are designed together. In that case how do they design a shock to match an adjustable spring? Now I'm very confused...

Now feel free to bag the s**t out of me.

Coilovers have a different internal structure with the bleed setup and bypass system as well to handle for the increase in spring rate when you compress the spring down further. As has been said, they aren't anything special on our cars because that is how they come from the factory being MacPherson struts. The rears aren coilovers, they are seperate springs and dampers. The only real benefit is maintaining a matched spring and damper ratio no matter how low or how high you have the system setup. Plus the handling control if you go with a reputable brand.

I've had adjustable dampers before and aside from the first initial tweaking, I never touched it again. A good matched spring and damper combo is just as good as a high end set of adjustable coilovers. Still, if I could afford a set of KW V3's..... or DDC's....

Also found an excuse to buy some coilovers. turns out ive manage to dent the shock casing one the front right. i have noticed a knocking sound recently. Awsome, now i can justify spending money on some new ones

Tyre will be 22mm higher increasing ride height by 11 mm and with the speedo showing 60km actual speed would be 58km so not much difference.

tints today, 35% fronts, 20% rears



took out the rcd310


and put in an rcd510


the 310>510 swap couldnt have been any easier, literally took 2 minutes. just pop a butter knife in the top corners, they pop out, and the rest is obvious. no scratch marks either

just to confirm, i put in the rcd 510, its the touchscreen with 6 cd stacker

the rns 510 is single stacker, and has gps lady

its a bit more messing around with the rns, since you need to connect up the gps antenna etc

i got it from this seller on ebay, picked it up from him no worries. its brand new, the buyer of a golf optioned to an rns, so they took out the stock rcd, he has some sort of connection to a vw dealership

i also should mention that damn! does the headunit make a difference to sound quality! if i told you i upgraded every speaker and put a small sub, you would believe me. the quality is amazing, and the bass is so much deeper, i was honestly not expecting that at all!

I wouldn't say more messing around the antenna takes another 5 min unless you run a cable to the shark fin.
