finally I found someone with the same problem.

    • Yeah it's like 0.5seconds before the clutch is released, then another 0.5 to 1 second before the car realises you got your foot to the floor and should behave accordingly.

Just google, police academy blue oyster bar.

Don't get me wrong bloody pain in the ass getting this crap looked at but when the box works properly it is a wonderful revolution in gearboxes: smooth, quick, direct feel and most of all way better city driving than a manual.

Yes they are new and have their faults but like anything it will take time to work out these bugs. The common torque converter gearbox had plenty of problems in its 2 speed days but now 20 years later is pretty much flawless. I guess you could say the same about the 6 speed DSG which has had a very good track record since all the recalls.

The real problem is the dealers, they make you jump through hoops just to get the thing looked at...it really just drags things along
I hear what you're saying but I find the manual in both my 6R and my 9N3 to be easy as pie to drive and I do about 90kms a day in often peak hour traffic on the M5/tunnels/pac highway.

I know a lot of heroes choose manual because the racecars do, but personally I find that its so easy to drive, not to mention reliable that I'm happy to take the savings offered by taking manual and pocketing the cash.

Im sure one day DSG tech will be at an awesomely reliable level but till then Ill just let you early adopters work it out for me

i would drive a car on a test drive, how i normally drive, ie: hard

you need to know if it can do what you want it to do, if they have a problem with that, find another sales man/woman

also this whole launch control thing, if thats what you want, a vw is the wrong car, get an evo.

            • It wasn't so much because she was in the car, (I spun the wheels up, going through round-abouts) it was because I was in an unfamiliar residential area, and she was giving me directions
In the Golf I did 5 consecutive 0 to 100 km to 0. Foot flat to floor to 100 then smash the breaks and rotate the wheels to 3 then to 9 and then to 3 then repeat. I absolutely smashed the dsg transmission trying to find fault with it.
The lag is the only thing I noticed in the Golf

              • No get the right VW. All models with the 6 speed DSG come standard with Launch control.

The 7 speed is designed for low power applications which is why it doesn't have launch control (and part of that low power application means it is NOT designed to take massive amounts of torque through a single solid, non wet clutch). Just sucks that they decided to put it in the 118tsi/polo GTI which have a lot of torque pushing the boundaries of the gearbox.

                • I don't want launch control. I was just commenting that I had noticed a bit of a lag in the 118 tsi Golf when you floor it, which the other gentleman had noticed in his Polo GTI.

If they bring out the light weight (200kg lighter) carbon mk 7 golf gti in three years time, I will definitely be purchasing it.

yeah all I want from my tune is better gearing from d1 to d7 so it's longer. To fix the lag I have I know it won't completely go but half of what it is . is much better and after the software I put in and some other stuff I'll be happy . I'm not really looking for launch control it's just apart of the tune if I get it I will let you all know and if I don't . I will still let you guys know
