  • I used the Zaino stuff on my MINI and it was great. The cleaner/conditioner actually smells like leather.

Do you mind me asking where you bought this from and the shipping charge (I am assuming you bought it overseas)...

Thanks Guy - hoping it's not too far away!

Bought from Damian at DPM Performance in the UK. The unit you need for the GTI is the 29015-4 and while it took a couple of weeks before they made it here, I figure the time it took mostly related to sourcing them from H&R.

Hey guys, do you have a direct link to the actual right product for the Polo 6R? (29015-4) on the DPM site, as I can't seem to find it. I assume you guys didn't pay the VAT? and it will fit the Polo GTI 6R?

                • My car is booked in for next Thursday for it's 2 week birthday present!

                  Full Gtechniq protection package including..
                  - C1 Crystal Lacquer Coating
                  - C5 Alloy Wheel Coating
                  - G1 Glass Coating
                  - Fabric Interior Coating

I'm having the tint done at the same time but I'm still unsure exactly what I want. I only want something subtle. At the moment it's looking like Johnson Marathon MN30 on all windows.

At the moment I've said no but the guy also highly recommended a new ceramic tint that they do on the windscreen that has 100% UV block. Anyone had any experience with this?

What has everyone else done/planning to do regarding tinting?

                  • I'm a bit uncertain re tinting at all. Will wait and see when I get the car. One reservation I have is the report I got from someone who said they had issues with the auto dim mining mirror with the rear window tinted. He said at night it was almost dangerous for when the mirror dimmed he couldn't see out the rear window. I didn't have tint on my last car and really didn't miss it. Will weigh it up post delivery

                    • By all accounts so far, looks like the Polo GTI does not come with any tints (even this privacy glass thing). If that is the case when I take delivery, then I won't be getting any form of tinting. Frostee's concerns are valid and true, sure a tint will stop UV to a certain degree, but it won't sure as hell stop heat to any degree I do accept that it does look good, but it is easy to scratch at the same time, I know, as I have had tinting on my last 2 cars.

payno, money must be burning a hole in your pocket. I've just bought some CCP stuff which will last me for quite some time and I'm happy with that. I really can't justify the extra cost of someone else doing/adding all that detail, especially to a new car. But to each their own. Post some pics when you get a chance after the detail

I got the sportspack which comes with dark tinted rear side windows and back window. The only reason I've chosen to get the front tints as well is that I think the car would look better to have all side windows the same colour. If tinting didn't come with the sportspack then it's not something I would get.

Mine has the sport pack as well so I was going to see how it looked before making my decision.
My current car, a Honda, has slightly subtly tinted glass (no film) but the family wagon, a Subaru, we got tinted and is now scratched up at the back seats and in the cargo area so will neeed to be removed at some point.
Jury is out for me on this one.

haha trust me.. not the case. I'm just getting way too caught up in the whole new car thing.
Thanks for the opinions on the tint. I think I'm going to leave it for now. To be honest I'm perfectly happy with the way the windows look at the moment. Can always do it later if need be.. rather than waste the money now.

When I ordered my car, the dealer had a flash red polo out the back with only rear tints so I could see what it looked like. I couldn't compare it to one that had full tints but I hope it will look good. Plus with the sunroof, I didn't want too many different coloured windows.

If the reason for the scratched tinting in the back of your family wagon is because of kiddies, then that won't be a problem with me because in the words of Bill Heffernan, I am 'deliberately barren'.

                              • Hey Guys. I saw you talking about the Volkswagen "factory tint" and thought I'd post a few links to help you all out. We've had this in the Golf MK6 for 2 years or so now so we're a bit ahead of you all.

Quite frankly, it'd be better if the windows weren't tinted by VW. Whilst the tint looks fantastic, it's not as dark as some people would like, and it also doesn't protect from all types of UV. To then make things difficult, it's just on the rear window and rear side windows and is therefore hard to "colour" and "VLT" match (VLT = Visual Light Transmittence, and is the measure of how much light a tint lets through. In most states in Australia, the darkest legal is 35%. Lower %'s are illegal and darker).

There are two threads in the MK6 forum which can help you.
First is the http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...ion-32781.html There is discussion AND pictures in there on different tint combinations which we've already found to match well with the VW factory tint. Whether you want to go much darker all around (but not legal), or just darker at the back and legal on the fronts, or legal all around, there is advice in there.

So a much darker all around example would be Lucas_R's car
A darker at the rear and legal on the front would be my car

Another good thread is the http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...ess-40510.html thread where people have provided information and feedback on the independant tint businesses which they've used. Though there is a bit of cross over between the two threads.

                                Anyway, hope that helps
