Just got back from a 45 minute drive to the shops (it's a 2minute walk away) and it happened again. Pulled up to the lights on a hill, down changing with flappy paddles. Went to move and nothing happened - fortunately turning the car on and off fixed it. Back to the dealers after only a day and 25km!

Sounds like a software glitch only based on the fact that a on and off fixed it. Good luck for tomorrow.

Confirm or Deny is the Polo GTI engine the same of the infamous Golf TSI that has seen so much microscopic attention from VW from the period of 2008-2010? sounds sooooo familiar when i look at the Golf TSI chirpy derp.

Yes, exactly the same engine, apparently the only thing that has changed mechanically s the piston rings but after many a poor experiance of late with the lies out of vw, I wouldn't hang my hat on that either.

Thanks Gti mk6. The chirping started at 1,200 kms. It's no way as bad as the YouTube clip. It's more like crickets Honestly, I can live with it provided it doesn't escalate.

I dropped her at Chatswood Classic this morn and was plesently surprised by the responses, "Yup we know and will check it out". My list was 8 items long but most were settings.

On pick up, I was told that all were arrested but the score is more like 5/8 as was discovered on the way home. The 3 left behind are:
- Engine bay rattle still there so they must have adjusted the wrong line (ie not the A/C). In fact, it sounds worse/louder.
- Dashboard lighting not set to permanently on.
- My cricket still lives! But was assured that the tension, tensioner and bearings are all good.

So she needs to go in again for the first two. Stay tuned for the sequel....

Just popped into Chatswood Classic for test drive with the technician. And he double checked the lines and they are ok. Rattle from something else. So booked in for another day.

As for the dash lighting. It seems that the setting for 11.5 are different and are set to off. They can't work out how to get them on. So no joy there.

On the positive, scored a set of new number plate covers.

Mine illuminate and dim automatically depending on the amount of light hitting the dash then only the needles illuminate at dusk, which is probably a good sign to switch your lighs on anyway

Hey Saabby, just to clarify.......the rattle yet to be found is a separate issue to the chirp? If this is correct, was the "chirp" discussed? Third time lucky for all to be fixed (guess, minus the infamous chirp), good to know it's not as loud as the YouTube clip

Some clarity. The original rattle which was fixed was presumed to be the fuel/air lines. When I drove away I still heard the rattle. On the recent test drive, they claim it is another rattle which they will address on another visit. It seems, requires removal of a few items

The infamous chirp, well it is something I have to learn to live with - which I now intimately call my engine cricket This is definitely a component fault which VW can't pin down. I guess it is not uncommon now that parts are widely outsourced. I sort of recall Porsche had one supplier of crankcases for 911 and Boxter which resulted in a % of them being recalled and ultimately ended up with Porsche acquiring the manufacturing company as compensation!

As for my dash illumination, my solution is to turn on my lights as soon as I start her up regardless of time of day

Well, it's now the weekend so my GTI is in the garage resting while I drive my truck. But come Monday I will forgive and forget as soon as I put my foot down

using CAD and a few other modeling programs for a living and owning some good quality measuring tools leads me to do silly things like model up the engine in 3d and prototype some design work for my car. So i started with the Top Pipe from the Turbo to the Throttle Body and discovered quite a fair bit of oil in the pipe itself (Blow By?) but upon inspection of where the PCV valve's tube connects back on to the intake (between the air box and the turbo, there was minimal to no oil anywhere. Not sure if anyone else has started to probe around in the engine, but could this be explaining the oil consumption? and would a catch can to some extent help with this issue (of the oil being where it is in the intake)?

After a weekend break and a good drive today, I am now convinced that the line fix was not properly done. It is the same rattle! Some rookie must have worked on it.

I have done a little over 1300km and checked my oil last night. it's low, with about 2/3 of the dipstick gauge being dry. I'll pop by the Dealer this afternoon on the way home for a top-up.

Before even considering a catch can, ensure you look at the manuals because in the case of the GTI it comes factory fitted with a catch can already, you just might not recognise it because it doesn't look like those pox ones from supercrap and autobarn.

The oil consumption issues are related to the piston ring tolerances from the factory, not blow-by, lower internal friction means lower fuel consumption.

On only the 3rd time the sunroof was opened, it has jammed open.....
When it went to close, it went into the "tilt" condition and is now stuck there. Hope it doesn't rain until it cant be fixed!

Also, excessive oil getting past the rings in a new car of today is unacceptable. Especially in a mass produced 4 banger.
