      • Went to the dealer yesterday to get my MDI and excess oil consumption test looked at.

MDI - It looks as though a majority of the problem is my Ipod but I'm still not 100% convinced. Either way it will sound better once I have the chance to upgrade the speakers anyway.

Excess Oil Consumption - After doing the 1000km test they concluded that it is burning a lot of oil, Volkswagen have recommended that I get the piston rings replaced so this means I loose my car for a week in august while they pull it apart and fix it.

They are giving me a courtesy car for the week, lets hope its not one of the many Nissan Micra's that were sitting out the front haha!

        • Think mine might have the "chirp" of the supercharger clutch, I can only notice it with the windows open though, still, at this stage if it is, it's not too bad..... actually don't mind it, I like hearing some mechanical noise out of the car

How many k's have you done Gav? Do you think it's as loud as the YouTube video link?Guess it's a personal thing, but don't think I will like it myself, fingers crossed it won't happen

            • No, nowhere near it and I've figured out how and when it happens and realistically, if you drive the car around it, you can't even notice it. Let me know if you want to come and have a listen, it's no trouble To be honest, in person, it sounds like a bed spring with the window open and with the windows closed, you can hardly even hear it. With the radio on, can't hear it either. That being said, if it does get worse......

              Oh, 2100kms travelled

              • Mine is chirping already. Not a big fan myself. Not sure what to do if it gets too loud. Don't like the idea of anyone playing around with the supercharger.

                • Well, seeing as VGA put a supposed gag order on dealerships here in australia, to tell customers that it's "normal" you're going to be pretty lucky to get a dealership that will do anything and even then, it's (as far as I can gather) a full waterpump/clutch assembly removal and a new one fitted up....

                  • That's great news gavs. Always wanted to own a mobile bird park.

Taking her in for the infamous brake/fuel/ac line fix tomorrow. Plus configure lights and locking. Hopefully they don't create something else for me. Wish me luck.

Mobile bird park......hehe LOL, definitely not laughing at your chirp issue, just your reply Saabby When hearing the infamous chirp on YouTube, my thoughte were bellbird with laryngitis! How many k's before your chirp started? Gav said his isn't as loud as the YouTube chirp, is yours? As Gav mentioned back when the Golf chirp gag was in place, dealerships stock standard reply was either, 1. Unaware of any such issue 2. It's just a 'characteristic' of the car. That being said, then there were those that missed out on the chirp altogether, guess their Golfs lacked..... 'character'.... then. Oh, and good luck tomorrow, hope all goes well.

                      • Thanks Gti mk6. The chirping started at 1,200 kms. It's no way as bad as the YouTube clip. It's more like crickets Honestly, I can live with it provided it doesn't escalate.

I dropped her at Chatswood Classic this morn and was plesently surprised by the responses, "Yup we know and will check it out". My list was 8 items long but most were settings.

On pick up, I was told that all were arrested but the score is more like 5/8 as was discovered on the way home. The 3 left behind are:
                        - Engine bay rattle still there so they must have adjusted the wrong line (ie not the A/C). In fact, it sounds worse/louder.
                        - Dashboard lighting not set to permanently on.
                        - My cricket still lives! But was assured that the tension, tensioner and bearings are all good.

So she needs to go in again for the first two. Stay tuned for the sequel....

                        • Dashboard lighting might be set to permanent on, but you need to be in the right light for it to appear illuminated because it's self dimming, weird, i know but I found this out when driving with the sun glaring through teh windows behind me the other day and my dash suddenly illuminated like all hell broke loose but when the sun moved away, it dimmed back down again

                          • I have a rattle from the sunroof. To me it sounds like the wind defelctor is rattling when the sunroof is closed.
Will get it sorted when it goes in for its check up.

                            • Have had my first Polo GTI problem after picking up the car yesterday and it only has 85km on the clock...

I had to get home in a hurry from work as the wifey needed to head out and I was on baby sitting duties this evening. So I just had to have some fun on the way with the flappy paddles and when pulling into my street it felt like the gearbox was not engaging any gears. It would rev up to 3000rpm and then drop off again, I could change gears (indicator on display changed from 1 -> 2 -> 3 etc) and also put it in D with no joy.

Have just read all 32 pages of this thread and sitting patiently (finger nails gnawed off, wear patch in the floor boards from pacing) for the wifey to get home so I can go out and see if the thing will start and move!

                              • Confirm or Deny is the Polo GTI engine the same of the infamous Golf TSI that has seen so much microscopic attention from VW from the period of 2008-2010? sounds sooooo familiar when i look at the Golf TSI chirpy derp.
