Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 6R GTi - Brake Light Switch

Putting it out to the brains trust on this website

Where is the Polo 6R GTi (1.4 CAVE Engine) Brake Light Switch located?
How do we get to it to remove and replace it.
Any manuals or guides would be appreciated. If email address required please PM and i will reply there.

    Thanks In Advance

Hmm......... not sure what this question relates-to?

The actual brake-light switch is physically bolted to the Brake master cylinder (see picture below) and of course the brake pedal switch is where the name suggests!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

you might need to get creative with some tools, or possibly remove the lower engine mount which will allow you to rock the engine which will give you more room to access the master cylinder (you will need a second person to help do this).

@GTI14L : Yes, part #9 - as I say in the note on my picture -why do you want to access the switch?

OK - I don't have a wiring diagram for the CAV engine - but on other model Polo engines, the Brake light switch is fused. Again, I don't know about the CAV engine, but on lots of 2008 engines, the fuse is SB32 and on many 2011 engines the fuse is SA32.

Before you grab a spanner and particularly given the difficulty of physically accessing the actual switch - maybe look at the fuse panel on this car first? It may not be relevant on the CAV engine - but it's an easy try, so worth a shot IMO!
