  • Just a question about the front seats. I remember in the R36 test drive all those years ago, that I found the side bolsters very intrusive.

    Are the 206TSI seats the same design?

    Funnily enough, aren't a lot of the R36 side bolsters collapsing now?

      Wohoo! Congrats and welcome to the club.

      Mine's been off the road for a week and I won't get it back for a few more (thanks to skippy) and I can't wait to get it back. I've been lucky enough to have access to a spare car which is a newish Holden Insignia VXR and my gosh it makes you appreciate the quality of the Passat. I still can't get my head around the fact that a car that is only 10k cheaper can be so badly put together, engineered and finished. No reflection on being loaned the car, for that I am extremely grateful, but more at a dig at the fact that Holden think this car can compete with other euro's.

        Thanks!

        Just wondering if anyone can tell me as I work my way through the manual... The ACC... I've worked out how to get it going and set it back to the original speed you had set... It stops in traffic as expected... But is it meant to follow traffic? Also, the cruise control seems doesn't seem to get up to it's set speed very quickly. Is this a setting somewhere? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong...!

          There is a setting that you can determine how fast it will accelerate when in ACC. Look at the personalised settings.

          If you come to a complete stop when in ACC you will need to just touch the accelerator to resume following the car in front of you again.

          • Regarding extended warranty you mean to say the 'factory extended 2yr warranty' right...? It is not an insurance but a genuine extended factory warranty for 2yrs & the cost for Passat is $2000. This can only be purchased with a brand new car & before that brand new car leaves the dealership with the new owner. The genuine factory extended 2yr warranty cannot be purchased after that as you rightly told him. If the finance guy is advising you it can be purchased after the new car drives out of the dealership tell him to stop the BS, he is telling you big fat porkies.

            Congrats on picking up your new Passat today 206Harvard. Let us know your impressions.

            Ordered mine 24th November last year and I'm still waiting. It has actually arrived in Australia and is currently at Patrick Stevedores in Laverton. I've been advised there's a backlog of 2000 cars requiring fumigation and compliance certification. Apparently all new cars get inspected and fumigated in case of undesirable bacteria. Once all this is done, car goes to the dealer to get the after market stuff done to it. Upshot is I can expect delivery late this month or early February.

            Actually talked to the dealer today about extended new car warranty. Finance guy handling this claims the Passat comes with a 3 year / 100,000 km warranty. I told him that can't be right as on Volkswagen's website it states unlimited ks. Who's right here? Please advise.

            Anyway, he's quoted me $2385.75 for the Volkswagen New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance consisting of an extra 2 years / 100,000 ks. The next one up is for 2 extra years and unlimited ks priced at $2651. Told me these prices include a 20% discount because I'd be buying this upfront rather than later. I pointed out it couldn't be purchased later as on Volkswagen's website it states this has to be done prior to registration and delivery. No, he says it can be done at any time during the standard 3 year warranty, but will cost more.

            Going to have to investigate this further ...

              Thanks for that, Riker. I'm quoting the title on the policy document he gave me 'Volkswagen New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance Policy Document'. It is underwritten by Allianz. I made it very clear I want Volkswagen's extended 2 year unlimited kms new car factory warranty and that's what he gave me. I also made it clear the info he's giving me is contrary to what's on Volkswagen's website. He told me to ignore the website and insisted that the product he's quoting me is the manufacturer's extended warranty. Also told me we'd talk further when I come in to pick it up my new Passat.

              Speaking of which, I got a call yesterday about organizing pickup of my new 206TSI, so his 'big fact porkies' could stuff up my opportunity of getting the genuine product. Not happy Jan!

              I'm actually wondering if he's talking about the Allianz New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance whereas I'm talking about the Volkswagen New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance. Both backed by Allianz and very similar, but not the same. I've been very precise in my comments and requests, so I find it difficult to understand this sort of miscommunication. Either way the prices being quoted are too high.

                I picked mine up yesterday. I was told the car has a 3 year, unlimited kilometre warranty. The sticker on the car says unlimited kilometres as well. I didn't get an extended warranty, but the service department said I could extend within the during my warranty period. I was told this by a rep from the service department. They didn't state whether it was a "factory" warranty, or a third party warranty of sorts. I'd suggest emailing VW directly (not the dealer), and tell them you need clarity. They seem to come back with pretty detailed responses.

                • Not once was an extended warranty mentioned or offered when I got my 206.
                  However when I bought my golf 2 years ago the dealer said they would extend the warranty for an extra three years providing they solely serviced the vehicle, the only catch was the service intervals would be six months rather than the usual twelve.

                    You wouldn't expect that to be a factory warranty.

                    My dealer told me that if I service my car with them continuously, they will cover for any mechanical faults/repairs for three years (after the warranty ends), up to a value of $1,000 per repair. Considering it's capped price servicing (once pricing becomes available), it wouldn't really matter which VW I took it to, but I guess it's a nice little bonus, if I ever have to take advantage of it? They also said I can get free oil top-ups if needed (which they said is the only thing the car might need between services).

                    • Thanks Riker, TailsK and fellow Dubbers for your interest in this matter.

                      I have spoken to my VW dealer and we are now on the same page regarding Volkswagen's Extended Factory Warranty. As long as I'm willing to take it tomorrow before I drive off in my new 206TSI I can have it for $3535.00

                      In the meantime I did a Google search and came across Extended Car Warranty Insurance| Allianz Swann|Warranty & Insurance I had a constructive conversation with the consultant and she recommended the Eric Insurance 5 star Platinum Warranty. It mimics the Volkswagen Extended Factory Warranty but with a couple of differences:

                      1) There is a limit of 200,000 kms total since new eg. if the vehicle has 45,000 kms when the policy starts (at the end of the 3 year manufacturer warranty), the owner has 155,000 kms left to travel over the time period;
                      2) It does not include roadside assistance;
                      3) It costs $1910 for 2 years, $2,110 for 3 years, $2,700 for four years and $2,900 for five years;
                      4) This extended new car warranty can be taken out at any time during the 3 year manufacturer warranty.

                      Very interesting!

                        My sister has a 118TSI MK6 Golf Wagon which had a myriad of problems. She has the Allianz Extended Warranty and has had no problems claiming against it, mind you, she has good service history and a lot of her problems relate to common issues with the dreaded 1.4 TSI engine and the dry clutch DSG (both have been replaced).

                        I think over time she's probably gotten ~15k worth of value out of it. Strangely enough, Allianz still underwrite the extended "factory" warranty, but you're right, it's a different product.

                        • Does anyone have recommendations for fuel (i.e. Shell, BP, etc.)?

                            I have been using BP ultimate (petrol and diesel) and I'm very happy with the fuel quality. I get 100-150 km more per tank compared to 7-Eleven's diesel.

                              I recently enquired about the same thing and was redirected when searching for Allianz to Eric, AVOID at all cost is what I'd say, I looked into it and it's mainly a scam (well Not really but don't listen to what they tell you, READ the PDS and other info)

                                Thanks for that Foxpuppet. I would concur with you on this one.

                                You might be interested to know that when I picked up my 206TSI Passat two hours ago I told them the $3535.00 they quoted yesterday for the genuine Volkswagen Factory Extended Warranty was too much and that I was no longer interested and would look elsewhere. Lo and behold they discounted it to $2,356.67 which I decided was much more reasonable and I took it. Gotta play the game, folks!

                                Anyway, I'm loving my 206TSI. It's a magnificent grand tourer!
