Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I wouldn't be painting the chrome. I'd look at plasti-dip or wrapping it so that it's reversible when you go to sell it.

I was thinking this morning that it would look a lot better with a brushed aluminum finish rather than the chrome, or just continue the piano black stuff on the chrome bits. Chrome always looks cheap to me. Particularly on the old C63 AMG's.

On to tuning questions . Who hear said they had a JB1. How easy was it to install and what is your general review/feel of it all?

That would be me. I've done about 1800k's with it installed. The car performs really well. The feel with gentle throttle is the same without the JB1. With moderate to heavy throttle, the engine pulls harder for longer in each gear. I don't have any special map on mine but I believe you can have one that makes the car behave more aggressively.
As for fitting, I had mine done at Hills Eurohaus in Castle Hill. I don't think it would be difficult for someone to fit with some amount of technical ability!

          • Hi guys,

Just wondering, the two bars that people got on the 206TSI - are they genuine VW tow bars? I ordered mine, but their system was down, so I got a hand filled in contract (which I signed). The two bar is listed under "geniune accessories", but on the updated contracted (typed values, etc.), it's listed the two bar under "non-genuine dealer fitted accessories".

            • Does anyone else notice that the Pirelli P7's that come on the car are noisy?

They are very noisy and annoying... They have been discontinued in Australia in favour to the Pirelli Dragon.
When I was at the showroom, Golf R and GTI had P Zero or Potenza... Not sure why they put these awful tyres on the Passat R (in my case Skoda Superb 206). Will replace them as soon as I can.

                  • If the new VW Arteon was coming out abit earlier i think I would have held off on the 206 sedan. I think its gonna be quite nice with head up display and the new 8 spd DSG box

Jammed to phone up into the bumper to see properly here is the part looks like it's not a VW part but from what I saw of the euro tow bars they have auto drop down ones so maybe there isn't a "factory" one in Aus it's dealers fitting a local component ?

                      • If I'm not mistaken a month or two ago VWAUS said the 'CC' replacement (it wasn't known as Arteon at that point) was not coming here primarily due to expected low sales targets when using CC as an example. Guess we'll be kept guessing for a while.

                        • Has anyone been able to get a 206TSI R-line to do any DSG pops/farts?

Went for a test drive as a passenger with a friend who has a Mk7 GTI PP and his biggest complaint was the exhaust note - or lack of it.

I suspect that it needs to have a resonator delete or a sports muffler added, however interested to hear what others have found/observed.

Other than the fuel use... the sound of the exhaust when compared to my GTI is also my biggest complaint! I don't imagine its an easy fix!

I think the problem is the car is sold overseas as a 'regular car'... as opposed to here, where VW is marketing it as a modern-day R36 replacement. You can buy this car in a plain-jane body overseas and it's got the soundtrack to match. Adding the R-Line stuff is cosmetic only. It really needs a proper 'R' do-over...

What I would give for a proper sounding exhaust!

                            • OK so there's no magic button to push to get an exhaust note that we were missing.

And I know what you mean this is an R-line model and not an R, so it a luxury model with sports trim rather than a "proper" sports model.

Nothing that a trip to the exhaust shop couldn't fix. However it is a little disappointing given that it's already a $65k car.

In the Mode menu... if you have the car in 'Sport', you get the 'Sports' exhaust, which is a touch louder. From memory, you can also set up your personal set-up with sports exhaust. I found it barely noticeable!

A few posts back, there were photos of flaps on the outer exhausts of the quad exhaust setup. I assume this has something to do with it.

I've been using Eco lately. Anything other than that and I get 14L/100kms... in traffic the other day, even in Eco, I was getting 14L...
