Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • usb port under arm rest stopped

    I hit a bump the other day and I lost connection to my usb drive that was plugged in the usb port under the arm rest. A few seconds later it reconnected but then I lost connection again awhile later and it never reconnected. I've had it lost connection a few times in the past but it always sorted itself out afterwards but not now. I tried various usb thumb drives and still nothing.

    What steps can I do to get it back? Is there a way to reboot the whole media unit?

    My car is a 2016 rline bitdi 4motion.

    If the cable was at all taut going into the socket it could have pulled at it and damaged it. Had that happen with a portable HDD and it broke it inside as they are fairly fragile in behind.

      Try pressing the on/off button down for about 10 seconds. This should reboot the system.

        @Slonie: Hi.
        If this car is a Passat B8 - it will have a MQB platform build.

        I don't have a specific wiring diagram for this car - but on other MQB platform cars, the USB hub under the center console is controlled by what the wiring diagram calls "R293". This module is fused!

        Again, I can't tell you the fuse position on a Passat - but on a Golf mk7 it's a 7.5 Amp fuse.

        Assuming that this car actually has a "R293" module installed - maybe look at the fuse location diagram and locate the correct fuse - make sure that the fuse is correctly seated.

          Have you tried cleaning out the port. Maybe there is some dust or some grit which stops the cable going all the way in properly. A small toothpick and a vacuum cleaner can help clear out any dirt.

            A reset of the media player fixed it thank goodness. Strange thing my wife's Tiguan did the same thing and a quick reset fixed that aswell.
