B7 Retrofitting - MIG's Passat

Just an update for those still following along.

- The cluster has been converted (3D Gold theme) and is in, wheel diameter and speedo matched; It Took a while to work out the EEPROM locations to edit. I left the 6k RPM tacho in from the diesel; it's pretty funny watching it hit the end
- The lane assist camera has been swapped to the H version over the L, as the older version does not have the issue of sign assist not working after 45min on the PQ platform.
- Blue R36 coil pack connector plugs.

Currently working on
- BCM swap to R revision ( Rain closing and better LED support)
- 2Q0 Blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert.
- Frameless B8 rear view mirror.
- Chromatic mirror for the left side.

Few more things to come; I might look at a Dynaudio amp upgrade if I can't fix the echo issue with phone calls.

This weekend's project was upgrading to the B8's borderless mirror.

I am very happy with the result; the mirror is faster in responding to lights and has and much nicer fade in and out.

Step for installation,

- Remove the old and new mirror mounts.
- Cut the ball mount off the new camera.
- Grind down the old mount and set the new one on top with two-part epoxy (This could also be TIG welded)
- Repin the connector pinout is the same, just a different connector.

This week's update.

My Aliexpress RVC failed after a few months, so I had to move forward with the RVC replacement.

- Installed a 7N0907441B Highline controller.
- Removed the camera module from an 8V0827566 (Audi RS3) and installed it into my original flip badge.
- Installed footwell lighting, I went with LEDs, but I was not too fond of the cold white poor CRI they came with; I removed the LEDs from the modules and replaced them with High CRI warm white OSRAM LEDs (KW DSLP31.CC-GXHX-4R9T-Z444)
- Added the wiring for the flip badge to the control unit, can now use the camera when not in reverse (Not based on reverse lights anymore)

Upcoming items on the project list.
- Modding the 5Q0907441A into 7N0907441B units to allow for cheaper upgrades.
- 2Q0 side assist radars, custom 3D printed mounts.
- 3 Port USB hub with B8.5 USB-C port
- BCM replacement.
- DSP and subwoofer install.

I have not had an update in a few weeks.


2Q0 Radars are in, but not at the right angle to work correctly; the 3AA radars sit at 15deg, whereas the 2Q0 needs 40deg.
Here are the 3D printed mounts I have been working on; the final version will have the screw holes and be made with PETG.

I have successfully converted the much cheaper 5Q0907441A module into a 7N0907441B needed for the Highline camera and MIB PQ.
I will write up a guide if there is much interest.

The upcoming project is a CAN translator that emulates a BCM with ambient lighting so the MIB menu will work; this will be a module that sits on the infotainment CAN line and has its own LIN bus master controller.

So the red marked resistors and IC are to be removed off the 5Q0907441A, not shown as I already removed them; they consist of two zero ohm resistors, some CAN termination resistors, and the old CAN Transceiver
Green is new parts \ EEPROM location for the 7N0907441B

Nice work!
I've used Golf 7.5 brackets and was pretty happy with how they ended up sitting.
Can't comment on the final calibration as yet as my car is currently incapacited
Rear cross traffic was working well but dynamic calibration hadn't completed when my car decided it had other ideas.

I am happy with where the calibration came to with the first version fitted to the car; I think the spec calls for +6 deg to -6deg.



The new passenger-side chromatic mirror came today; it looks like the correct part number. It was a $200 gamble

Parts should be arriving tomorrow.
If so then gearbox out on Friday to survey possible situation.
While I was monitoring calibration it was showing under 1 degree off so fingers crossed once I have my car running again will be able to complete.
Then I'll need to actrually run the wiring as LED mirrors are currently in the boot

Made good progress on reverse engineering the LIN communications between the MQB BCM and the ambient lighting modules.



Just need to work out if the MIB PQ will look for an address on the CAN to reach out to the BCM or not when enabling "ENG122227-ENG117491-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_ambient_illumination"

, it would be nice if I could emulate the address it's looking for.

I installed my Audi 80A 035 382 A Bang & Olufsen subwoofer and Helix monoblock this weekend, installed my new fuse off the distribution box in the boot and ran it to the amp that will be hidden behind the storage bin in the boot.

I ordered a 3C8857521D electrochromic mirror for the passage side, but it turned out to be a flat mirror and not the convex that the car came with; everything is a bit more zoomed in vs the wide-angle stock one; I will try and source a 3C8857521C (electrochromic, aspherical) from an LHD market car next.

Still working on the PQ to MBQ lighting gateway; I just need to find a car to do a bit of data logging to work out the CAN IDs that the MIB talks to for the ambient lighting.
