Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Low fuel pressure and misfire?

I have a 3.2 litre V6 with 96,000km. A few times recently the engine has hiccupped and lost power briefly. On each occasion I was turning left onto a main road and accelerating away. At the time I thought it might be a fuel surge problem when the fuel tank was low or near empty. VCDS has reported a fault frequency of 5 and has logged:

012555 - Low Pressure Fuel regulation
    P310B - 008 - Fuel Pressure Outside Specification – Intermittent

    000401 - Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247)
    P0191 - 002 - Implausible Signal – Intermittent

Then today when accelerating up a hill, again with a low fuel tank and the car showing 30km to empty, the engine misfired and the check engine light flashed on and off for maybe 5 or 10 seconds. VCDS has determined today’s event as:

    000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0300 - 001 - - Intermittent

    000773 - Cylinder 5
    P0305 - 001 - Misfire Detected – Intermittent

    000774 - Cylinder 6
    P0306 - 001 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding the root cause?

Might be as simple as not letting the fuel get so low in the tank. Does it happen when you have more fuel in the tank?

Hasn't happened on a healthy tank of fuel that I can recall recently. I've got a full tank now so I try to provoke it.
