Hi guys...
Long story short... My thermostat housing started leaking and the timing belt and water pump was done by last owner.
I was able to remove the top belt cover, fan belt, fan belt tensioner, lower TB cover and could see the TS housing and the obvious water leak. Now I didnt want to remove the TB or go into service position or rip half the car apart and I also didnt have the Crank TDC locking pin or the cam brace to hole the cams from moving....
There was no way to get it out so I thought Id move the TB half way off the TB tensioner pully and cam sprocket.. So after removing some tension on the TB slowly... I was able to slide the belt off enough to pull the housing... Great, BUT. I have a feeling the cam slipped a tooth or two on the belt putting the tension back on...
So thats where Im at... I now have to wait till monday for vw to get my new housing and trying to research how I can check the timing.. Im kicking myself for not marking it in the worst case scenario that it script a tooth like it has
So do I leave it as it is till I get the new TS housing in and done then I was thinking of turning the Crank to TDC mark making sure cylinder 3 is TDC then pull the rocker cover gasket off the side that moved (drivers side) and see if the marks on the cam lines up... Im sure it will either be advanced or retarded slightly... So id remove some tension on the TB again and with a assistant use cam spanner to turn the cam a tooth either to where it should be...
Is this going to work for me.. Or should I pull both top cam covers... get the dam lockin pin and see if the clamp fits on both cams and if not **** the one I thought that moved...
I donno need advice.
Cheers
