  • 125TDI mods

Having just picked up a new B7 Passat (125TDI, DSG, Pearl black, desert beige interior), I'm now looking at some mods and wondering if there is anyone else out here that might have some ideas (Sharkie's not talking to me now because I've bought an oil burner )

A few things I want to do already include:

    LIGHTING:
    - LED bulb replacments for rear number plate lights and DRLs - already ordered these
    - replace headlight bulbs with Osram Superlights or something else (any suggestions?)

    INTERIOR:
    - replace stock speakers with German Maestro's and dynamat doors
    - install underseat sub (already checked out the Pioneer that was made to fit the passat. Being fitted shortly & will post pics of this neat install)

ENGINE: - remap courtesy of Custom Code (have already spoken with CC and dealer likes them too, so all should all be good - will wait for a good run in period first though).
    - air, exhaust?

    EXTERIOR
    - was going to replace wheels, but actually quite like the Michigans - went to choose some aftermarkets and ended up looking at similar, so might as well keep these. But will add some spacers to push them out further and improve the aweful pinched-in look at the rear.
    - give it the Nano treatment (seems people like that the best)

Be great to hear anyone else's ideas etc

Not deserted, just waiting for you to see the error of your ways and return to the world of PETROL forced induction ......

BTW, not posting this in the T5 section as some will just get upset, agree with you that the DSG is actually a good fit for the TDI's ..... I now know for a fact that my T5.1 DSG 103TDI MV is half a car length quicker (tested 3 times) than a T5 128kw TDI auto DC to a 100km/h

So you can still have fun in a TDI, it all just happens a bit slower .....

          It doesn't upset me?
That could be the truth, but only untill you load both with the full load. You should get the T5 with the 4motion Sharkie to enjoy the ride in wet, you would never wanted 2WD van.

By the way the family clan is getting a new car so we went yesterday to test drive some cars (see the post in Octavia section), all were TSI with the DSG, because the owner of the car lives too close to his work. ....yes we had the biggest fun in the GTI, the car is just brilliant. However, he bought MK6 118TSI MY12 model, he can't afford to lose his d. license.

thanks Greg. Have been reading lots of your posts and I was kind of thinking to myself, if I drop mine into you for a week or so could you do the all goods? All I want is 180kw and 500nm

The thing is the TDI is so strong off the line to about 90k/h, but then just falls in a big heap. The DSG does its best, and it does a good job, but no getting away from the peakiness of the diesel compared to the much flatter torque & hp of the petrol (-not quite the same, but sort of reminds of riding the old RM125 as compared to the XR400).

TBH, I'm sort of having a bit more fun in the passat than I did in the Tig - and I haven't checked out the launch control yet.

Just reading through the owners handbook to make sure both high and low beam headlights are H7's before ordering the osrams, and noticed that they actually describe how to use the launch control! I haven't tried it yet, but amused me that it had detailed instructions. I can't remember reading that in the Tig's handbook.

Ordered 4 Osrams through CandlePower - $18 each + postage. Seemed good price for genuine ones.

I'm not a fast worker clip, took me three years and a girlfriend to get this far!

I'd just get the tune for now after she is run in ( 10k ) and then look at reducing oil blowby and reducing EGR as much as you can. MKVI TDI performance products will come - check Malone tuning in the USA, they finally have "our" current version over there now. The UK tuners will follow suit, as will I hopefully!

Looks like the provent first then Greg. Just not sure where to put it or best way to plumb it!

                      Looking forward to the remap

Sub addition - fits nice and tight between floor channels. When seat is in normal position, you can't see it. Sounds really surprising. Even the installer was amazed at the response.

DRL LED install (under exposure to see bulb pattern). You can see the fog light/side light beside.

Yeah fitting a Provent takes some creative thinking in a crowded modern TDI. You need to plumb it between the inlet and outlet of the pipe circled in red, and there is space below the yellow circled inlet pipe beside the battery - where mine first was, and the front passenger headlight area below the aircleaner - a heap of room in the hole leading into the front foglight area.

A tricky, but massively worthwhile mod.

Which bulbs exactly did you end up using in the DRL's? Been thinking about swapping mine over..

                              No bulb out errors?
