I'm sure I replied to this. Must have disappeared when the maintenance happened.

I didn't sacrifice anything... In fact I ended up with options I wouldn't have ordered (satnav and sunroof) if I had have ordered a new car. I ended up with a brand new showroom car, not even a demo. All I did was compromise on colour. I liked white and blue but if I had have ordered one it probably would have been white but when I was told "3 months" I decided to take the blue one. 4 days later it was in my driveway. I actually prefer the blue a lot more to white now... Stands out better as an R model (imo).

        Dr Block,

I ordered an R36 from a Melbourne Dealer this past Christmas.

I have been recently advised that I will receive it in August / September.

I would very surprised if both of ours aren't delivered around the same time as there is so many production cycles and shipments every year.

lol! same problem with private fleet actually. was told jan delivery & then got pushed back to april! Well in my case what private fleet told me was that the vw dealer probably forgot to place the order!

Solution? I took my business elsewhere who had the car on the spot Just take your private fleet paperwork into a dealer & ask them to honor it.

I was recently advised before purchasing my V6 highline wagon, that if I wanted to order a V6 wagon then it would probably be delivered at the end of the year, if at all, reason being is that Australia is allocated a certain amount of wagons per year, they were all taken up with the pre christmas rush of people getting into uncle kevins package... thus none left in the allocation for Aust....

As for the if at all, there is a new passat due mid next year sometime, thus they would stop production of the old model well before that, as they have done with the Touareg at the moment, even though the new model isn't released here, dealers cannot order a current model one as they are not building them any more. Thus if the production of a wagon got pushed back too much it may not get built.... guess this is a product of the australian market being such a small piece of the global empire that is Volkswagen.

As for waiting, I saw my car in stock at a dealer, it was as I would have ordered minus active cruise, but with a sunroof, so as the other option was waiting for a rather extended period of time, I took the stock car, it was new, not a demo. bought it on a saturday, took delivery the following friday.

I must say, I had a good experience with my VW dealer. If anything, my car (v6 Passat CC) was delivered about a week earlier than expected!

Order AND build date (in Germany) was circa September 2009 and delivery was mid December 2010. I didn't have to ring them even once. You can't get better than that!

Having said all of that - and its probably easy to say given I have my car now - I think half the fun in ordering a new car is the waiting time.

Best advice that I have is take it easy and relax. The dealer wants their money. I'm sure they are eager to deliver your car to you.

If you haven't sold your old car yet, take advantage of the extra time and (subject to your contract) see whether you can sell it privately (I got an extra $4K on my car by NOT trading it in - paid for a few tasty options).

If you have sold your car and really need a car, then I feel that you SHOULD approach your dealer to see whether they/VW can lend you a car from the date that you EXPECTED deliver till the date you actually get it. Even if they refuse to supply you a car for free, you should at least be able to negotiate a loan car at a substantially reduced cost (they want your repeat business after all don't they?).

Oh yea, and like I said. Relax. Time will pass and you will have your new toy soon enough

just a new passat, not the R version, that would surely be later than the regular versions.

OK, Due mid next year was what I said, did I say anything about official, or "R" versions etc, No.

Due means when it is expected to be ready, that is all. take from that what you will , nothing official.

Why is it due then? Is there a published schedule from VW regarding product lifecycle schedules and releases?

I'd be interested to know if anyone had heard or read anything about a V6 engine shortage hitting production?

All in all, as a first time VW owner, this has left a very sour taste and truly brought into question the commitment of VW Australia to good customer service.

My car was delivered late by about a Month late last year (not related to engine supply though) and I also sold my previous car when the lease expired. The Dealer did supply me with a loan car during the bridging period, after I put a bit of pressure on them. Possibly because when I ordered the car I put a firm delivery date on the purchase contract and told them very clearly that I needed the car by that date, or a loan car. In the end you bought through Private Fleet, so depending on what you told them when you ordered the car I would put pressure on them to organise either the Dealer or something else. Remember the saying about the squeaking wheel....... if you don't make a lot of noise then any loaners available will likely go to the person that makes more noise than you do! These guys should have enough contacts in the industry to organise a car for you. Another option is to tell 'm that you are happy to accept one of their trade-ins, as that might be easier to organise than a Demo. A lot of Staff in Dealerships grab a trade-in to drive around in when they loan Demo's to Customers.

                            Good luck

I ordered an R36 Wagon in Biscay Blue in Nov09.Delivery was too be 22Mar10.
Optioned the car up with satnav, bluetooth, dynaudio, sunroof, auto tailgate and adaptive cruise control.

The vehicle has been ordered through Private Fleet and was happy with the price/deal they achieved for me. Private Fleet have stayed in regular contact advising that the delivery date was on track as per advice. I received an email last Wednesday advising that the 22Mar10 was still good. I'd even received a call from the dealers aftermarket department asking if I required window tinting for my car on the same day! Was starting to salivate at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of my new car.

Later that same day, received another email from them advising that there was now a problem and that delivery wouldn't be until the end of May10, this was based on information they'd just received from the dealer (based in south western Sydney).

I then received a phonecall from the dealership in question advising that my car hadn't even been built yet!!! Apparently, there was a shortage of V6 engines at VW in Europe and production was now way behind, hence the revised delivery date. I informed the dealership that as far as I and the brokerage knew, we were still looking at 22Mar10 for delivery and as such, had just sold my car. I enquired as to a loan car until mine arrived and was flatly refused on the spot (great customer service,NOT!). I said that I didn't expect a R36 for a loan car that a Polo would be fine as I require a car to carry out my job, still no dice

I had a similar experience a few years ago with Subaru. Except my was worst still. Not only was the car later then the promised date, when the car finally arrived it had the wrong interior color. Anyway, when I found out that the car was going to be late and like yourself have already sold my car I asked for a loaner. They refused, so I basically threatened to put out of the contract. Immediately thereafter, they delivered the loaner to my work. I supposed I had grounds to terminate the contract.

I recently bought an X5 for the missues and requested for a loaner too. Initially they refused but because the loaner was discussed during the deal, I reminded them of that and they finally loan us an X5 for 3.5 weeks.

So moral of the story, don't accept No for the answer. There are plenty of cars in the yard, its just a matter of applying some pressure on them. Good luck!

I heard the same thing, that a backlog of the VR6 is causing the delay. I have seen the following in an email from VGA that clarifies the issue:

"The factory is currently experiencing short-term supply restrictions of Passat V6 engines. Due to this restriction, Passat Sedan, Wagon and CC vehicles scheduled to be built between CW9 - CW13, will be delayed. Where possible, VGA will be bringing forward the scheduled production of non-V6 Passat dealer-orders, into the CW9 – CW13 period. In addition, VGA will be requesting the factory increase production of V6 model variants as from CW14, to reduce the V6 backorders."

Bummer about the loan car. The dealer I went with (Nepean Motor Group) has been much more cooperative in that sense.
I've emailed VWA about my situation, ZERO response from them thus far. I've been away with work all this week, will definitely be chasing the dealer for a loaner now I'm back in Sydney. Sounds like Nepean have been better to deal with then Paul Wakeling!
