  • Any one ordered an R36 had their car delayed?

    Hello All,

I ordered an R36 Wagon in Biscay Blue in Nov09.Delivery was too be 22Mar10.
Optioned the car up with satnav, bluetooth, dynaudio, sunroof, auto tailgate and adaptive cruise control.

The vehicle has been ordered through Private Fleet and was happy with the price/deal they achieved for me. Private Fleet have stayed in regular contact advising that the delivery date was on track as per advice. I received an email last Wednesday advising that the 22Mar10 was still good. I'd even received a call from the dealers aftermarket department asking if I required window tinting for my car on the same day! Was starting to salivate at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of my new car.

Later that same day, received another email from them advising that there was now a problem and that delivery wouldn't be until the end of May10, this was based on information they'd just received from the dealer (based in south western Sydney).

I then received a phonecall from the dealership in question advising that my car hadn't even been built yet!!! Apparently, there was a shortage of V6 engines at VW in Europe and production was now way behind, hence the revised delivery date. I informed the dealership that as far as I and the brokerage knew, we were still looking at 22Mar10 for delivery and as such, had just sold my car. I enquired as to a loan car until mine arrived and was flatly refused on the spot (great customer service,NOT!). I said that I didn't expect a R36 for a loan car that a Polo would be fine as I require a car to carry out my job, still no dice

Has anyone else who was expecting delivery of a V6 engined VW around the same time as me been advised that their car is now delayed till end of May as well?

I'd be interested to know if anyone had heard or read anything about a V6 engine shortage hitting production?

All in all, as a first time VW owner, this has left a very sour taste and truly brought into question the commitment of VW Australia to good customer service.

    Cheers,

    Dr Block

you're not the first or the last to get a delay and you have maybe 0.1% chance of a loaner. it sucks but try not to beat yourself up about it because its a waste of time. we got pushed about 6 weeks from orig which made it a 6 month wait.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

I guess because my last car purchased was a Lexus and they honestly couldn't do enough for me (Lent me a loan car for a month till my car was delivered) I expected a similar level of service from VW, I mean, It's not like I'm buying a Proton or Ssangyong where I'd expect zero service.

true- you will not get the same level as the top tiers. but you save so much its worth it.

I've had my R36 wagon delayed as well, though I ordered mine in Jan for (originally) a May delivery. This is now looking like 'by end June' delivery - if i'm lucky. I heard the same thing, that a backlog of the VR6 is causing the delay. I have seen the following in an email from VGA that clarifies the issue:

"The factory is currently experiencing short-term supply restrictions of Passat V6 engines. Due to this restriction, Passat Sedan, Wagon and CC vehicles scheduled to be built between CW9 - CW13, will be delayed. Where possible, VGA will be bringing forward the scheduled production of non-V6 Passat dealer-orders, into the CW9 – CW13 period. In addition, VGA will be requesting the factory increase production of V6 model variants as from CW14, to reduce the V6 backorders."

Bummer about the loan car. The dealer I went with (Nepean Motor Group) has been much more cooperative in that sense.

This is why I (and a lot of others on this forum) insist on the dealer telling me the VIN for a custom order ASAP. It should be easily available as soon as your car is actually scheduled to be built - yes, that's right, before the actual build takes place.

If there isn't a VIN then your car hasn't been built yet (end of story, no excuses, and no flim flam "explanations"). Once you have the VIN you can look for it on the shipping tracking system. If it isn't on the tracking system then it isn't on its way to Oz (and you can expect big delays in taking delivery if it hasn't been built yet).

Some dealers seem very reluctant to give out the VIN. I have yet to be given a good reason for this behaviour. I believe that is often an indication of either a problem with the build and/or order, or possibly a shonky dealer who may be thinking about selling "your" car to someone who is willing to pay more for quicker delivery.

Some individual salespeople may be inexperienced in accessing the VIN and other details on the various VAG computer systems, but the dealer's stock controller should be easily able to find out what is happening and give you all the relevant info (that is their job).

Good luck with getting a car. Are you willing to consider a different (new) passat that has already been built ? It may not be exactly what you ordered, but it may save you several months of waiting.

At least then it's not some BS excuse that the dealer has come up with then if you've seen the email from VGA. It did seem a bit thin when it was trotted out on the phone.

With regards to a loan vehicle, have Nepean Motor Group supplied or a supplying you with one till your car is delivered?

I was offered a VIN when it becomes available so as to track my car.I've also had trouble with regards to getting a reverseing camera fitted, was by accident I found out it was no longer bundled with the satnav and had to be checked as a seperate option. When I enquired about getting this added to the vehicle seeing as now it hadn't been built was informed that it was impossible due to the order being ''closed''.

My initial thought was that the dealer had possibly had a private buyer come in looking for a wagon specced like mine and had decided too ''sell'' my order at a better non corporate deal price. He was very quick to offer me a silver R36 wagon that he had in stock but all it had was the satnav. I spend a great deal of time in my car through my occupation and it's not really an option for me personally to trade down to a lower specced vehicle to ensure I get into a car sooner.

It would've been nice to have been informed sooner, when I'm sure that they were well aware of the issues with motors rather than a week and a half away from the delivery date. The refusal of a loan car was just insult too injury in my mind as it seems some other Sydney dealers are willing to help out with a loan car.

I'm hearing you GHW,apart from venting about what happened to me at less than a week and half from delivery, I was just gobsmacked at the total lack of customer service and the expectation from the dealership that I should be happy that my car is now coming in May instead of March.

I guess my expectations of VW customer service and satisfaction were possibly a tad unrealistic, I don't know? I'm sure for every experience like mine is the exact opposite where customers have had their expectations met and even exceeded by VW.

I really don't like hearing stories like this. How hard can it be to keep people informed with accurate information that is easy for the dealers to access? I had a VIN seven weeks before my R36 Wagon was delivered in NOV 09. If "your" car has not been sold to someone else for a higher price, the stock controller is in the wrong job. The car should have been on a ship and docked in Australia by now (or very close to) for delivery on March 22nd. Something is not right.

As for the the reverse Camera. I ordered the camera but the box wasn't ticked on the order. Try as hard as you can to get it factory fitted. There is no OEM solution for my Wagon that I can find.

                      Good luck.

I did. Once I decided on the car, I was told 4 days by my dealer. And I picked it up 4 days later.

But you did have to make some sacrifices i.e. options/colour etc from what you originally wanted did you not?

                              Dr. Block,

I think the issue of a loan car might be worth taking up with VWA itself. If the dealer themselves won't help you out and with the information that you've told us " Private Fleet have stayed in regular contact advising that the delivery date was on track as per advice. I received an email last Wednesday advising that the 22Mar10 was still good. I'd even received a call from the dealers aftermarket department asking if I required window tinting for my car on the same day!" then i reckon you sold your car with the knowledge and understanding you'd be receiving your new car on the expected date, due to correspondence from the dealership and Private Fleet. My only issue is if Private Fleet were giving you the proper info the whole time. Something that says they were is the dealership aftermarket dept ringing you about window tints.

I hope this gets sorted for you and on another note, how does VW run out of VR6 engines?????

                              Good luck mate.

                              Cheers,
