One thing to remember with white ones is that the sunroof shouldn't cost you extra. It's standard equipment on the white R36's because they don't come with metalic paint.
Candy white in a R36 is only available for R36 in combination with the optional electric glass sunroof at addional cost... well that is how the bottom of the booklet reads as well as my invoice from vga australia when they book the cars out to me..
Hope we have that sorted..
They are not free.

No they are not "free". But they are also not an OPTIONAL extra because to get a white R36 means you MUST have a sunroof. Therefore they can not be invoiced as an OPTIONAL extra.
Every model except white comes with metalic paint included in the price.
Metalic paint is usually an additional cost on other models which means that a white R36 is actually worth less than every other colour. Hence the sunroof is added during the build process for every white R36 so they aren't actually worth less than all the other colours. If VGA ("VGA Australia" would actually read as Volkswagen Group Australia Australia) is ripping dealers off and they're passing that on to the customer, then that's a HUGE issue. Dealers shouldn't be paying MORE for sunroofs on white R36s than say a Blue R36 with no sunroof and no other options.

We as dealers get charged for the sunroofs exactly the same way customers do.. The paint is included in the cost of the car in an r36 no matter colour is chosen but at the bottom of the broucure it does state sunroof at addional charge when car is ordered in white and when we order the cars we always have to pick sunroof as option.. Thats life now everybody lets move on..

More likely Joe Public gets shafted paying massive mark ups on metallic paints which a 3/5 SFA extra to manufacture than non-metallics. I suggest the sunroof is worth a shed load more than the difference in paint, so paying extra for this paint is silly, and more silly than paying extra for a sunroof.
You appear to have been brainwashed by popular opinion on the internet, but guess what, sometimes you can want it to be right, but it just aint. If others think this they have been sold by a crafty salesperson perhaps?

No I cant but appears the overseas markets also have sunroof with white only option too It maybe just down to a Volkswagen thing. Anyway In aus if you want to order a white R36 you must also have a sunroof. I think the original thread is now getting us off topic. I have to say the forum is feeling a little heated and I just wanted to jump in and clear up the issue about the free sunroof with white.

can anybody shed any light on the extent of the discount offered as at 1/2/10 on the R36?
I can only guess it is related to reduction on import tariff in which case should my yet to be delivered (preordered 2009 and through customs in 2010) r36 now be reduced....? hmmm

It depends have you taken delivery of the vehicle? or when is the delivery of the vehicle to you? do you know what week your car was built????? I suggest having a friendly chat with your dealer thats what we are here for>>> The reduction and some minor inclusions is great news for both customer and dealer..

I just wanted to see where I may stand before speaking to the dealer... I hate seeming like I am angling for something I am not entitled to, but on the other hand if the dealer has obtained a discount from VW then I feel there is some merit to asking for it to be passed on (in some fashion)

No heat from me Phillip, just trying to get some, if any, clarification and understanding as to why this is.
