well I suppose I just have to find a smart buyer that actually knows there is practically no difference. =) I CAN'T wait for another 1 1/2 - 2 months for the car. LOL

To add more to what Buck said:

      I picked up my .:R36 on 27-11-08. It's an MY09 with a build date of 09/08.

The dealer mentioned to me that you can tell it's a MY09 by the 9 appearing in the Chassis No:

Excellent, how do you find the car? Is the DSG really that bad at low speed as a lot of the reviews?

i found it be incredibly civilised (when left in D) on my two test drives...it certainly more abrupt when in S mode....

Yeah, i can see what they mean...i mean i've only done @ 500k's in the car so far and from what i've noticed, with flicking the gearshifter over to the left to engage the manual mode, it's a little harsh. So i tend to leave it in drive/auto mode for stop start traffic or speeds not going over 30-40km/h. Give me some open road and it's slip it over to the left and fingers on the paddles! So to sum it up...the benefits of DSG in manual mode far outweigh the negatives IMO. If the DSG bugs you at low speeds, leave it in drive and you won't be dissapointed. Now, S (Sports?) mode seems to be a different kettle of fish..something i have yet to explore..from what i've tried so far it holds the revs longer and sounds a lil meaner..downside: petrol goes bye bye..
After the drive up and back to Sydney for xmas, i'll have a much better idea of what this car is capable of.

            Hope this helps.

            Cheers,
            Jayse.

during the test drives i also found that technique played a part with the smoothness of the manual changes...it seemed to be much smoother when you *didn't* lift off when changing up...ie just flat shift...

it takes a little getting used to after coming from a standard manual...

I only ever drive it in manual mode, and don't find bad at low speeds at all.

Gead, thats the idea of the DSG - no need for any lifting, its all taken care of.

You are right, it takes getting used to, but, when you do, you realise this is the best bit of kit invented for a car since the turbo charger!

This means that all cars sold before say April 09 would still be 08 builds. Thats why they say its an 09 compliance model.
It doesn't go off the compliance plate at all sorry.

The dealer! So you talk to the sales people then. The sales people know bugger all.

I don't understand why when someone who's been in the trade & worked in dealer's for 12+ year's & post something up, people still believe what either the salesman (who don't even know what the car can do & can't even explain the function's of the car!) or what someone else who has just brought a car & only know's how much they paid for it post up.

(This isn't directed just at this thread either.)

It's the chassis # & the build date that determines the model year.

September onwards is the next model year!

The compliance plate is when the car has meet ADR's & has been complianced for Aust. road's.

All sounds very interesting, I only noticed that DSG has D, S and Manual as I always thought that S=Manual. SORRY!! So, from what I can gather, D is pretty civilized and smooth is this correct? and in S, it holds the rev longer and higher and in Manual, BAM!! off you go. I am getting really excited, guess I will ring my dealer to find out the status again!!

You know I find the manual mode almost somewhat redundant as the S mode is good enuf if not better if you are in the mood for some action. You can still manually change gears in S, it only defaults back to the normal S mode if you don't tap on the paddle for a few minutes or come to a halt. Similarly, in D.

I have also observed that in S it seem to hold the rev higher than the Manual as in Manual it upshifts automatically once you are at the rev limits.

Mine arrived at the port on the 21st Nov. and l picked it up yesterday 12th Dec. but it was at the dealers a week ago and ready but l couldn't get to Melbourne any earlier to pick up. That killed me for a week knowing that after 5 and a half months it finally arrived but l couldn't get away due to work commitments!!

I have only been driving for one day however from that experience l found full manual to be sensational. I haven't experienced any auto upshifting and it is holding the gear no matter what l do. From reports l was concerned that if l had left it in say 3rd and was hovering just under redline for some time it would automatically upshift (To my disgust) but l haven't found that "yet".

Macka, are you redlining it already?! Brave man - you must be from the side that thinks you should run them in the way you will be driving it. Fair enough.

When in manual mode, don't forget about the accelerator detent. At the bottom of its travel, you can push the pedal thru a small little detent that will force the DSG to kick down 1 or even 2 gears. If you don't go thru that, the DSG should never kick down on you when in manual. I find this useful.

I don't use S mode often, but when i do, it is annoyingly revvy. I guess thats the idea, but whenever i want to give it a bit i always find myself going for manual - its too much fun!

BTW, can anyone confirm that you get downshifts and throttle blips under braking when in S mode? Someone claimed that on another thread, but i cannot replicate.

Went to the dealer yeterday, he brought up the page from Patrick's and showed me the status and there is a HUGE list of things they have to do before despatching the car and there must be at least 10 more things they have to complete checking!! All my fingers are crossed to able to see my baby this coming week!!
