Just spoke to the dealer and according to him the car is still with Patrick's. I wonder why it is taking so long!! Maybe I am just impatient. Sorry for venting my frustration here.

      Welcome

Welcome to the forum first. Waiting on your can can be very frustrating, espeially at this time of the year, but enjoy the "rush", it will be worth the wait.

When in manual mode, don't forget about the accelerator detent. At the bottom of its travel, you can push the pedal thru a small little detent that will force the DSG to kick down 1 or even 2 gears. If you don't go thru that, the DSG should never kick down on you when in manual. I find this useful.

I don't use S mode often, but when i do, it is annoyingly revvy. I guess thats the idea, but whenever i want to give it a bit i always find myself going for manual - its too much fun!

BTW, can anyone confirm that you get downshifts and throttle blips under braking when in S mode? Someone claimed that on another thread, but i cannot replicate.
Yep you are right. This is my 4th brand new car (2 Previous were Liberty Turbo's) and pretty much my theory was don't go stupid in the first 500km's but keep it revving and then for next 500km's get the redline up and going on a regular basis but don't thrash it. After 1000km's it all systems go and just drive it hard. This theory has probably more to do with impatience however it hasn't given me any problems previously.

I am confused when you say, "At the bottom of its travel, you can push the pedal thru a small little detent that will force the DSG to kick down 1 or even 2 gears." If you have it flat out and going to redline why would it kick down a gear??? Sorry but l am confused????

When in manual mode, its good to know it will never 'override you'. That is, unlike when in D or S mode, if you don't want to kick down and just want to put your foot down a bit, you can push it to the floor with confidence - it just won't kick down. After all, you are in 'manual', right? You are the master of your own domain.

Unless you push thru the small little detent (like a final click almost into the carpet!)..

In that case, it WILL kick down, even when in manual mode.

This behavior i find convenient when surprised at the lights by a '93 Calias turbo that's just taken a run up the inside left hand lane.

Play with it. The bottom line is that it kicks down all too often when in D or S, so i drive ALWAYS in manual. Sometimes, though, I appreciate the ability of the thing to kick down for me when my hands are sought of full (with opposite lock or the like!).

Some latest update, the car should be ready to be ASSIGNED to a truck to be delivered to the dealer tomorrow. I wonder how long does it take from assigned to a truck and actually getting on one.

Does it normally take a long time for the car to be loaded on a truck to be sent from Patricks to the dealership? Mine was ready by Wed last week and its still not delivered yet. Or maybe I am just impatient? =P

My dealer advised that the R36 I have on order made it through Customs & compliance on Friday and was scheduled to get to the Dealer tomorrow. With Public Holidays and time to add tinting, etc... I've got an appointment at 4pm on the 29th to pick up the beast. Can't wait !

Assuming the delivery guys aren't working weekends it should therefore only take a couple of days to get from Port to Dealer.

Buck i hadnt heard anything - then i rang. miraculously our car had just arrived and i have been given the 30th - 1 day after you. I can only wonder when they would have got around to calling me .....

So buck you must be spending LOTs more than me to get this preferential treatment!

i also wangled a deal on bluetooth. i figured its a bit silly buying a car in this day and age without it ( seeing as it comes standard in things like a Getz!)
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Is it true that dealer has no control over when the car is delivered to them?

Seems like there are quite a few on order, lucky bastards! Be sure to post up some pics when you take delivery (if camera's still exist in that day and age).

Lucky bastards is right- in the Age today they reckon about 100,000 cars in bond around the country .

I bet most of them are big fat 4WD which get 20 l/100klm.

Also when i rang the dealer he said they were driving a passat CC in sydney last week. They must be close. Will need a new section for them.

You can bet I will take some lovely pics of the car at woolamai overlooking the surf. Will try to get a bikini girl in it for you. Even though in this day and age my 10MPix Canon EOS D400 is a bit out of date!

No preferential treatment or extra money spent... The only add-on's I got were tinting, Auto Tailgate, Sunroof and TowBar. The towbar was probably the most expensive actually ...

I probably just rang the dealer one day ahead of you !?

As of yesterday the car still has not arrived at the dealership....the chance of getting it anytime soon is getting pretty slim....
