  • Key fob issue for alltrak

    Hey guys
Hoping someone may be able to help

My keyfob for my alltrak has suddenly stopped working…but here’s the rub..only the unlock doesn’t work, all other functions still operate. I was thinking that would mean it’s unlikely a battery issue?
It was literally working fine, and then next minute not at all.
My main key still works fine so it’s definitely an issue with the key
Happy to try the battery replace per the sticky but wondering whether anyone has seen this before?
Btw there’s no issue with the button, feels completely normal

Fixed! Followed the keyfob sticky (thanks for that!!) and gave her a good clean. Bit of wd40 and she’s working again!

Excellent instruction. Everything is brief, clear, and most importantly it works. Thank you!

Might I suggest that you use a silicone spray instead of WD40 as WD 40 is slightly sticky in itself and attracts dust and stuff and you can end up worse off. Silicone does not do that and I have stopped using WD 40 except for what it is intended and that was as a loosener of rusted stuff as it penetrates but hangs around and leaves a residue

You can replace the battery first, even if other functions can still be used, sometimes low power will affect the signal strength, or use a cotton swab with alcohol to wipe it to see if it is a poor contact problem.

I agree 101% - but for a different and more important reason. NEVER (caps for emphasis) use WD40 on anything that has plastic components unless you know which form of plastic is used. WD40 has the unfortunate effect over time of degrading and in some cases dissolving certain types of plastics - so don't take the risk !!

If you must use a lubricant on plastic parts - use a silicon based grease/spray as suggested in the reply above

              Don

PS : Interesting trivia question - what does "WD40" stand-for? Look it up - the answer tells you what it really does and when to use it.
Hint: "40" means the 40th attempt at the secret formula

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.
