Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If it were electric (and not slow), I'd be putting a deposit on it today at that price.

$75K for a turbo V6 would depend on how quick it was (0-100 in low-mid 4's would probably do it). Was thinking V6 Arteon for a 3-4 year 'gap' car before an electric option was available, but it'll only be a year or so until the Tesla 3 comes out now, so probably too late...

    • While I was driving, I saw what appeared to be an Audi R8 in my rear view mirror. It was several hundred metres away and late afternoon.
It quickly caught up and passed me when I realised it was an Arteon!
It was those wide strip driving lights and wide and low front end that confused me. Great front end presence!

        • Anyone else getting slight dsg farts on up shifting? They only happen in Sports mode.

If I leave the car in Sports mode then park and turn it off, after I return the farts are gone until I reselect Sports (even if it is the current profile).

Funny you should say- I believe mine does but was inconsistent- I just thought it might have been due to varying climatic conditions (temp etc) when sport mode was selected- will try and replicate with sports selection after stop/parking then reselecting such as you've isolated and report back.

On that, because I can hear slight 'thumps/farts' in the exhaust on upshift, it made me wonder what a free flow set of rear mufflers would do to give the car a bit more sound character...

This problem seems common in the Tigaun mk2 which seems like the same head unit. A few on the forum have had theirs replaced under warranty.

                • Spotted a dark blue Arteon at Blacktown Bunnings.

                  Anyone here?

Great colour. I didn't even know it was available.

                  • I just looked on the VW website... it's listed. But you're right... I can't seem to remember if it was an option before or not.

                    • Looking at buying one of these, but has anyone put a tow bar on one yet? Deal breaker if I can't put one on it.
                      Thanks in advance. Geoff.

As a VW fitted option, no.

But as an aftermarket option - yes.

However, just to be sure to be sure - if I were you I would contact Lifetime Warranty Quality Towbars | Hayman Reese - and also see if they have one that'll fit an Arteon. With that etowbar, you'll be able to buy it and then find someone who can fit it for you. You'll want someone who does aftermarket towbars on VW/Audi/Euro cars just so they can get the coding right on the vehicle (so when you tow something, your rear sensors aren't going off etc). Plus I also think when the car knows it's towing something, it changes the stability control program etc.

                          • Good luck in your search.

Just a heads up, if you are doing a lot of towing a DSG/DCT is not recommended. There is a heap of information about it online you can read/watch but you should treat the DSG as a manual gear box and constant towing with low speed manoeuvres should be avoided.

That isn't to say that you shouldn't get an Arteon, just that if you are doing a lot of low speed towing manoeuvres be prepared for the DSG to wear much quicker.

                              • I did get a fully loaded white one. Can't believe how much I love it. One tricky thing I haven't seen mentioned, press the unlock button for a couple of seconds and all the windows & the sunroof open. Press the lock button for a couple of seconds and it all closes.
