Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i'll try and find the briskoda links and share it with u.

with regards to the "stalk" behaviour - mine does it as u described in the "before" state, i.e. High Beam Assist -> High Beam On (old skool)-> High Beam Off.
there is no need to switch away from "Auto".

the oz specc'ed Superbs don't get Smart Light Assist (Dynamic Light Assist).

So the scenario is... I have the Performance Monitors on the screen, and I turn the ignition off. The next day or a few days later when I start the ignition again (I've been working from home the last couple of weeks, so it may be a case of the ignition being off for 24-36-48hrs etc).

Anyway I start the ignition again, and the car turns on. The performance monitors come back on screen. From left to right I've got Oil Temp, Boost, Kw)

I drive off, and the oil temp software gauge never picks up a reading. Boost and Kw all work just fine. And even though on my virtual dash the water temp is at 90C, and I've been driving now for 20min or so... the oil temp still reads "---" . I then put my hand near the screen and flick the Oil Temp gauge up or down to change it, and then flick it back again to Oil Temp. It's only at that point it will pick up a reading. By which time the oil temp will be like 85C or whatever.

Like I said it doesn't do it everytime, but it has repeated itself a few times now over the last 2 months.

It's not a big deal and probably just a software bug, but I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced something similar?
Ok so I've got an update on this... it's a bug in the MIB 2 headunit and not so much the car/sensor itself.

I noticed this morning, the temp came up on my virtual dash under driving data without any problem, but the virtual oil temp gauge on my MIB 2 headunit still showed "---". It wasn't until I went to the home screen, and back into the performance monitors that it displayed a temp.

So 100% a software bug, and 100% MIB 2 headunit related. I noticed there's a map update in Jan which I'm willing to be hasn't been applied to my car - and there might be a software/firmware update for the MIB 2 headunit in that bundle. So I'll apply that to see if it sorts it out.

            • Looks like the rrp of new arteons has been reduced by vw Australia
eg in Sydney drive away is $68990 - with sound and style pack. Brand new MY18. Metallic extra.

few for sale now just below 60k, compared to nearly 80k at launch.

did vw over step the mark on their perceived price segment? Could be argued yes.

its a great car, extremely well equipped and I definitely would like one, but considering you can't really option the interior/wheels (aside from s&s pack), not option out the rline fittout, or even maybe a have second engine/drivetrain option, this method may simplify stock management, but not quite be what people at this level of purchase are after.

              Just my2c, open to conversation

              • This isn't too shocking. The car is definitely worth $70k.

I think a lot of people will think "why not get a Passat?", In my case there were 2 huge factors:

                The Passat isn't wide enough
The Arteon looks less like a family car and more Grand Turismo

We went to the dealer to buy a Tigaun and came home with this.

                  HiddenTaco,

                  The Passat (both Sedan and Wagon) are;
Exterior - 1832mm (width) measured from edge of guards, not mirrors
                  Interior (rear) - 1506mm (width)

                  The Arteon is;
Exterior - 1871mm (width) measured from edge of guards, not mirrors - Thank You PUMPED GUARDS!!!
Interior (rear) - 1481mm (width) - so actually "marginally" narrower...

So to say the "Passat isn't wide enough"...

But damn does the Arteon look good!!!

                  • Thanks.

I should have mentioned that on paper they are basically the same but when I measured using child seats as a reference the Arteon for 3 seats was better. Having said that, it's subjective to the child seats you have on hand.

I have been able to use three (3) child seats (in various configurations) throughout my Passat ownership stretching from B6, B7 and now B8 platforms... I have always used Safe-n-Sound restraints.

                      • Nice! Respect for not succumbing to the pressures of buying an SUV.

I find the Tiguan was ironically the less practical than the Passat.

I would take the Arteon any day over the Superb for its looks and if I didn't care about value for money.

But while we're talking numbers, being similar to the Passat and Arteon, the Superb.....
