ECS is cheap for these Miro, I put a set of red ones on the GTI recently for kess than the price of 1 locally ..... and that included ECS shipping costs!

I'd say put a new set in and keep the old good ones as spares as coilpacks are troublesome especially on tuned cars.

To the OP, a coilpack that works 100% if the car is stock may not work 100% when tuned as the demands on it are way different. It would be unreasonable IMO to expect VW to fix if it fails on tuned car.

IMPORTANT - Something to note for everybody when running tuned cars ...... stay away from VW service centres ..... find a good honest specalist mechanic and stick to them. Visit VW only for major warranty claims and then detune as much as possible. It is certainly within VWs rights to deny claims on parts even remotely related to the issue on a modified car and certainly within their rights to flag a car as tuned.

So, do you know where are they made? The price is similar as on alibaba (chinese ebay).

They are supposed to be OEM, so realistically could be made anywhere VW has a parts supplier. Even OEM VW electric/electronic parts come from China these days I believe mine was stamped made in Taiwan ......

Yes, and many places in China where the components can be made, with a big difference in quality. For that reason I would stick with a branded coil even if it costs 4x more.

Yes, and now that I'm moving I'll have to track another one down (in Tsv). Truth be told, I'll probably get rid of the Tig in 12mnths or so anyway - to much frickin hassle with inept dealers, uninterested VAG and lack of knowledge in general. Thank god for this forum though, otherwise we'd be completely stuffed

There's a couple of us that are giving these a go, though there are many others that have used these successfully from ECS in the past. We'll keep you posted if there are any issues, however I'm pretty confident that these are OEM and not cheap ebay knock-offs.

Understand that if you're charging someone to install hardware in their car is a different situation to buying to install in your own as it's your reputation on the line with the parts you supply. Hence why if you want to guarantee source of supply you go down to your local VW dealer spare parts counter and pay $90 a coil pack.

However if you have a tuned vehicle you're better off with the uprated coil pack as the stock ones are prone to fail (as a number of us have found out).

Yes and if you buy a couple of sets the per set price comes down too.

I'm going to keep one in the boot just in case...

Recent experience is testament to this fact. Even though they replaced my faulty coil-pack my car had been flagged in the system last visit when I went to get the waste gate clip fitted.... VW service dept is off my Christmas card list for sure

I only had a DP and tune on at this stage too. A bit of an effort to take off the DP just for fitting the waste gate clip so I thought I'd take the risk. I've paid the price for it now

My Tig has 06H 905 115 A and the replacement coil pack was a "B" so next rev. I really think they should have replaced the lot rather than give me a mix'n'match set. Not sure what the difference between "A" and "B" is though they're soon all to be changed out. Probably keep the "B" as the spare in the boot as it's the newest.

I bought heaps (>$5k) of parts fr ecs and the oem were genuine oem, the h&r / bilstein / etc were also genuine. Local vw parts only open when i am at work and this is making it hard for me to buy from them.

I'm actually amazed that the local price for a set coil pack is 4x of ecs. I have seen many parts that cost 2x of ecs prices... but not 4x.

Just an update - I've had my set of R8 coil packs in and running for a couple of days with no issues. I can't say that it's 2 x faster but it does run pretty much same as before (no noticeable difference) which is what you'd expect.
