You can run them in standard engine but probably more for guys with a tune (as this is when issues seem to arise with the stock ones).

I replaced the revision A (06H 905 115 A) coil packs as a preventive measure, and immediately the car picks up rev much quicker, specially off idle.
Which means I have been driving around with a dying coil pack(s) for the last 20000km without realising it......MY12 Tiguan 132TSI + DSG

Where you run into problems is when the coil pack doesn't create a large enough voltage to jump across the gap and then obviously you don't get a spark/ignition.
You still have to have the right fuel/air mix so if you run too lean you'll end up with a hotter flame (and possible singe things). If you're too rich you'll get a sooty build-up.Last edited by tigger73; 22-05-2013, 05:38 PM.

Took my Tig in to VW to check out an ECP fault and was told that it was a coil pack failure. They didn't have any in stock and needed to order one in. Tig just turned two years old the other week and had 60,000 KMs. No tune or performance mods done yet, was holding out for a sale with APR.

When I had one go they only replaced the single coil pack because my car was "tuned" (they usually will replace the set).
I actually don't understand this logic. Either the tune caused the problem and it's not covered or it didn't cause the problem and they should replace the set.
Anyway they ended up replacing a series "A" coil pack with a series "B" and left the other 3 as series "A".
I took the opportunity to replace the lot with the R8 coil packs as I didn't trust the others. I now carry them as spares - just in case.

Well, it didn't take long. Cylinder 3 started misfiring on the drive home today (previously it was cylinder 4 with the faulty ignition coil). Will have to contact the dealer again to book the car in.
So now I'm thinking of holding off on getting the APR tune in case there is an underlying engine issue.Last edited by scooby; 05-06-2013, 11:15 PM.
