I ordered a 147 TSI last week after I had my wife test the 125 TSI and the 2009 TDI. We went to three dealers. One dealer had no tigs in the yard that hadnt been sold, just a used 2009 TDI. One dealer just had a couple of 125s and one had 4 125s and one TDI.

This is probably why the dealers are not discounting.

My wife wasn't happy with the TDIs acceleration which I think was because the 2009 TDI lacks the 7 speed dsg.

She was happy with the 125s power and acceleration so I ordered the 147 because after I optioned the TDI (my pick) the cost was more expensive than getting the 147 with my options (less needed as many options standard on 147)

The only discount I got from the dealer was paint glaze and tint plus they have promised a loan car if my Tiguan doesn't arrive before my current lease finishes. The only $$ discount was a fleet discount of about $4,500

I am expecting delivery around December, so 5 month wait may be a bit too optimistic.

I didnt realize that the dealership was closed due to Easter. Checked my email and it was today!
Infact I just got back and guess what.. wife's happy!! We test drove 125tsi DSG, metallic black with leather and whoaa a big sun roof! It had some interesting functions and addons.
We test-drove for good 30-40mins and came back to the dealership at around 9am. Spent 2 hrs discussing pricing with the dealer.. It's a hard process, but the dealer won't budge for a cent
He said since it's a new model that hasnt arrived they can't do any better. At the most he could do was throw in free mats if I placed the order today.
He wasn't able to tell us much about the new model whether blutooth and mdi is part of the new one and any other additions except the facelift.
He did advise that there is a 5 month wait.
We haven't placed our order yet..
I ordered the 2012 model with bluetoth and mdi, one dealer told me that it may come standard in e new model, so I would expect a price adjustment if this the case. According to the German vw site, the new Tiguan can reverse park as well as parallel park, way cool!

I'd hold out a bit before committing to either at the moment. BMW just announced at the New York Motor show that their direct injection 2.0 Turbo petrol is now available. X1 and Z4 in 28i models by Q4 2011 ...... new 3 series to have it in Q1 2012 in 2 models just like Tiguans, 140+- kw and 180kw.

180kw/354NM BEFORE tuning makes this the performance small SUV to buy. May tempt me back to BMW soon .....

          ha, dilemma.
          thoughts?
hmm, this is crouching into sports car territory... One could be questioning the purpose, are you buying an SUV expecting SUV capabilities or are you after a roadster performance car.

iF the relationship was reversed, for example, one wanted a 200kw sports car but wish list begun to include off road technology, towing capacity rating of xxxxkg.

Somewhere a car manufacture would need to draw a line.... however they continue to surprise us (consumers) with tentalising fast bits features on car that is not expected to have the fast bits. like: SUV.

          anyway. just some observsations.

That's a good deal! Discount of $4500.. was that on the RRP of car or the drive-away price? Also, can you please advise me the dealer you signed up ur deal with.. may pay them a visit!

Sounds good! Is it with the park-assist function which is i believe $1400 or a standard inclusion?

                Hey Sharkie,
Does sounds tempting but truly i just cannot wait now.. I know i am being impatient but any more delay means that i sleep in the garage..
Been able to convince my wife on the tiguan, just need to find a good dealer with a good price!
                Thanks

Sharkie, the X1, but at what cost? it'll still look like an X1 - I'd have to spend a fortune making it look any good. But it is food for thought. I'm already looking at next purchase and had just about convinced myself of '12 Tig. But as I can now comfortably drive a sedan for more than 20 minutes (after 2 years of not being able to), my options are open again. Looked at GTi's, R's (can someone explain to me the excessive price of these compared to what you get in a Tig? - makes them seem grossly overpriced), cc v6, 135i, Alfa QV, Renault 250RS. I just can't decide! Too many choices and nothing really stands out, except the Tig for pure hp capability and 4motion with exceptional value for money.

The exact discount was $4588, it was off the RRP, I don't think it matters whether its off the RRP or drive away price, because VW dealers don't seem to discount so the drive away price is just price of car inc GST + stamp duty + dealer delivery. Stamp Duty in WA is fixed as a % of the RRP of the car so it doesn't matter that the price I paid was $4588 less, I still paid stamp duty based upon the RRP of $42990.

I ordered it through John Hughes in WA. I got the least amount of "sales bull****" from the salesman there, the other salesmen from other dealerships speculated alot more about delivery dates, features of 2012 model etc. The guy I ordered through was the most conservative, therefore in my opinion the most trustworthy. He also agreed to provide a loan vehicle should the car not arrive before my current lease runs out. Other dealers were promising delivery but wouldn't guarantee a loan vehicle, which if they were confident it would have been no risk to them.

I optioned that on the 147 its $900. I would expect that if it becomes standard in 2012, I would get an adjusted price according to my contract. Same if the price drops.

Lucky you! Can't get in touch with your dealer.. only issue, I am in Melbourne, Vic. Will need to find a dealer here who can help.
Is it possible for you to either post or PM me the breakdown of your price for reference purposes ( car + options + stamp duty + dd+ etc). This will give me a better idea in negotiating with the dealers. Thnks

The only thing I got from the dealer was paint glaze, tint and a loan car if required. I guess the dealers aren't keen to discount when VW gives a fleet discount and the stock isn't in the yard.

                          PM on the way.

The dealer emailed me with a re-written contract, interesting to find that the fleet discount was reduced to $3588 and the dealer delivery fee was also reduced by the same amount, resulting in no difference.

Guess I need to buckle up, do some more homework and then negotiate with the dealers to get a good price.
